those machines often churn out keys that don't work, we need a human

Hmm, I can see the argument for it in terms of cutting keys but I'm against opening more shops, if anything, I think we should close more.

Perhaps a good middle ground would be some sort of collection service for cutting keys or something.

A lot of Timsonses are inside Morrisson's stores; I think there's be an argument for keeping those open, and having it be for key-cutting only (things like dry cleaning and shoe repair are not essential). Realistically they'd only need one staff member on at a time, and it's usually just a desk near the customer services area... you could drop off a key, do your shopping and then pick it up on the way out. I don't think that would present that much of an increased covid risk.

I've just learned that you CAN actually get keys cut online by post - but I'm not sure how I'd feel about posting my door keys off WITH MY ADDRESS ATTACHED?

I guess you could do it more safely by getting them sent back to another address like a workplace or if you're in a bubble with another household .

There's one in a shopping centre near me but that's it, I wasn't aware it was an actual chain until this thread.

They used to be on every high street up here, though like I said in recent years they mostly seem to be attached to or inside Morrissons supermarkets. They're still everywhere in that sense, though.

On the topic of keys: I lost our back door key... a while ago ... and I don't want to shell out for a locksmith so... we just haven't used that door for almost a year .

In our house, I'm the only one who still has their original key, we've had to have several cut of mine because my family just nicks everyone else's keys when they lose them.

I was going to say "no one repairs shoes" but that said, I have a pair of Ł200 boots that's just had some stitching come loose on the side... loads of wear left in them so repair is probably a good option...

But no Timpsons to take them to!

There is a Timpsons inside our Large Tesco store....so I would imagine every large store would have one...if not most. I got a key cut a couple of weeks ago.
