I'll stay silent at 6pm but not clapping, I find it all really fake, the same ones outside banging on pans and what not will be in tesco the next day with masks on their chin

Nah, my views on this whole clapping nonsense are well known, but this is especially egregious. Boris has steadfastly refused to offer condolences or engage in dialogue with the families of the other covid dead, so this wankery is especially propagandistic and cynical.

The clapping for carers thing was a nice thing to start with but now it seems we clap for every little thing

No, I'd rather the government pay tribute to him by funding the NHS properly and giving the NHS staff their dues. I find it despicable that Boris endorses this over doing what's needed.

No. The clapping thing is old. It was after the first week or so really. All the NHS staff I know, bar one, hated it and felt it was hugely patronising too. Said what help really, is a bunch of people gathering on their doorsteps (sometimes having street parties too!) clapping and banging pans. They could have done with practical help, rather than people trying to make themselves feel good by joining in with the random trend and feeling great about it, while judging those who didn't feel it was something deathly important to do each week..

The clapping parties that overtook London streets and bridges and outside hospitals and that, with clearly no distancing had me totally baffled also tbh. Yet pointing out how counterproductive that was, got you labelled an uncaring NHS hating monster

No I've never clapped, it will be better if NHS got the funding needed etc rather than 30 seconds of empty clapping outside .

No. I've only ever done it once and it felt pointless and patronising. As for Sir Tom well he's in people's hearts regardless of bashing saucepans. Xx

In the spirit of caring for our old folks, I thought I'd do bots a solid by posting this in the right thread for him

No, I'll be lighting a candle instead which will burn for longer than a 2 to 3 minutes clapping.

I didn't, no. Literally no point, and coerced displays of respect completely rub me up the wrong way.

Same as my opinion on clapping for the NHS; it's cheap and chavvy.

Exactly this, it's all fake bollocks and completely patronising. There are far more constructive ways of showing appreciation, like maybe making a donation to the NHS...

Imagine how good you'd feel if you started actively campaigning for better NHS pay, better support for the elderly, etc. Parmy.

I didn't clap. However, I'm not going to criticise people who did. If some people think it's fake and contrived etc., then that's their right. If people want to clap because it's the only way they can express their thanks then surely it's up to them what they do.

My Dad worked for the NHS and I'm proud of him every day.

I didn't, I was driving ...but I cried. And I'm not a crier, I was just so totally overwhelmed at that moment.

I know the guy was 100 but I remember watching him sat in just a blazer waiting to go in for his knighthood. He looked so small and cold... I never cared for all that stuff before but now I actively despise it. Yes I know it was a proud moment for him, I appreciate that, but surely to God there could be different protocol for the vunerable?
