Default Having given it some consideration and discussion...

A 2-day ban? No, what an actual joke. As the posts have been deleted, I'll confirm that I have screenshots and - whilst I'm not "scared" in the slightest of vague threats on an anonymous service - I do think that this being allowed to fly is frankly a ridiculous way to run... err... anything at all.

I'm willing to pursue it via other avenues but I'd like some sort of assurance that threats of violence are taken seriously, especially as there's a documented track record of them being brushed under the carpet.

Umm, noted.

But I don't really think it is a serious threat. And it is as much directed at me as you. The ban was more for insulting / getting personal with another member (which I don't like to see - bringing in personal stuff).

You could have private messaged this, by the way.

I thought this thread was TS opting back into ML.

I don't think he's going to rock up at my door but I do think that there should be a zero tolerance policy to threatening language, because acceptance of it means it just keeps happening. It's not really a minor issue, I'm aware of multiple instances of this sort of language being pushed under the rug over the years, and (to be frank) the fact that you're not bothered about it also being directed at you really has little (if any) bearing on how it should be dealt with when it's being thrown around on the forum. That's purely subjective - for example, I couldn't care less about the attempts at "personal insults", people can throw those at me all day and you have my express permission to not even give them an infraction or warning for it.

Funnily enough, as he mentioned me moving on career-wise, that is indeed the case and my job for the last almost-two-years has involved a significant element of online safeguarding... there's "a line" and direct threats are very clearly over that line, whether they're realistic or not.

I could have private messaged it yes but the whole point is that the "hush hush" 🙈🙉🙊 culture when it comes to this on TiBB is the main problem.

I don't want to put words into Alf's mouth, but I think he's talking about verbally, and by dealing with TS verbally, I think he's suggesting that he'll then have to end up dealing with mods and admin trough bans/infractions etc.

I do agree that a lot of stuff gets swept under the carpet, but I also see the PoV that banning folks on a small forum perhaps isn't the best thing overall, so i understand the balancing act.

Members being allowed back after long term bans and being put back through the ban system from the start makes no sense to me.

"A 3-6 month ban wasn't enough? maybe another slap on the wrist will do it"

This I agree with, but it's the time limited aspect of infractions/bans that allow a criminal record to be cleared whilst serving a chunky ban.

Back in the weave drama days I remember we were put on like ‘final warnings’ which meant that if we basically put another foot out of line like around that time we just got permabanned or something iirc

Dunno if this is still a thing but sounds like it could be a useful thing to bring back if it’s not

It's phrased to be intimidating. It isn't intimidating, but it is deliberately phrased that way, and that's what lead me to have an issue with it on reflection... that it's just par for the course without any (real) consequence. A few years back there was a slew of posts with similar and worse, offers to "meet up and sort it out" etc. that as far as I know were barely addressed at all, amongst other things, and at least one other member I can think of who regularly threatens fisticuffs. I won't start naming names . I think it gets written off as nothing because they're realistically not viable threats, but I do think there's still "a line" that should be acknowledged.

I don't even really advocate permanent bans, I think there should always be scope for people wanting to come back and do things differently (other than in exceptional circumstances) but I do think it should be that; coming back to do things differently, not an attitude of "I've served my time now I'll continue where I left off".

I read it as someone who is frustrated you're calling him out on the crazy stuff he posts, and he doesn't like it. Don't get me wrong, I completely see where you're coming from, but I don't think Alf is on about a meet up, he just wants either mods to make you stop calling him out, or he'll say some pretend hard man bs and then get banned.

wasn't Ammi offering straighteners, was it?

I advocate permabanning. In certain circumstances. The thing is they won't change. Leopards don't change their spots. And all their infractions would have expired so they'd be back with a clean slate to do it all again. Not nice when you're on the receiving end of their abuse.

Threads like this arent allowed, not to brush anything under the carpet like suggested (we were already discussing this in admin earlier actually) but due to them turning into what this thread now is, a place where members seem to think they have a right to discuss other members (at times not even knowing all the details) when that's against the rules.

We don't see what was posted as a serious threat (more to do with what he will do verbally imo) although that's not to say that those type of posts aimed at others are acceptable either.

The concerns have been noted but in future please go down the proper route of contacting one of us privately with stuff like this.

Also just to clear things up, we dont give out permabans apart from in very extreme circumstances it's long term bans that increase in length if we feel its needed which could then lead to indefinite bans.
