Default UK's Cheapest Supermarket named!

Lidl and Aldi have topped a Which? investigation to find out the UK's
supermarket, with a total average basket price of £18.45 each.

On average, shoppers last month would have paid £18.45 at both Aldi and Lidl for 19 essential grocery products.

Included in the shopping list was food items like semi-skimmed milk, free-range eggs and Hovis wholemeal bread.

In third place, just £1.58 more expensive than the discounters was Asda, where customers would have paid £20.03.

Tesco came fourth, with their basket coming in at £21.77 while Sainsbury’s followed with essentials costing £22.10.

The baskets from each of the supermarkets consisted of a combination of own-label and branded products.

Following Sainsbury’s in sixth place was Morrisons while Ocado and Waitrose were found to be the most expensive

A basket of 19 products from Waitrose would’ve seen customers paying £24.79, £6.34 more than Aldi and Lidl.

Which one will take 1p off their milk costs,. to be the overall winner?!

I swear, I am willing to pay a bit more for my shopping not to have it literally thrown at me tbh Quality does not seem too different, but the sheer stress of trying a shop at aldi was awful..

Hmm in my experience I find ASDA just as cheap (and I trust their food quality more than ALDI's)... Lidl are good, though!

Would also help if they named what those 19 items were.

Yeah the 19 items compared seems a weird way to do it. as you could find 19 things that cost less even at marks and spencers..

Should be like,..some random number generator of random stuff. Though that might be a bit ott for a 'cheapest shop yey!' type headline

Every time I’ve gone to LIDL their fruit goes mouldy within 3 days, whether it be oranges or bananas or whatever. Their yoghurts go off quicker also. Sometimes it’s actually cheaper to have food more expensive you don’t waste..

I like ALdi as you can shop quickly as they dont have 20 different versions of each thing like bloody Tesco. Once you know what is good and what is bad its much, much cheaper than the big supermarkets

Aldi chicken smells like a ****ing corpse before get it home.

I don't mind Lidl (the new-built ones from the last couple of years) but I would literally pay £10+ to not go into an Aldi. Miserable place, with miserable staff selling miserable food. Bleh.

I only shop at M&S and Waitrose, so I wouldn't know how cheap others are.
