But hey, he's old... let him die. Right? It's Tibb. Maybe someone had him on the deathlist?
I don't think it's about letting him die or wanting him to die, really just the acceptance that at 90+ "incoming death" starts to become an inevitability. And I do think as a culture we have a bit of a fear of it/aversion to it as part of life.

Again yes its always sad for a family to lose someone, but on a larger scale, I feel like there's something to be celebrated in simply getting as far as 99. Like... He did it. He made it to the end of the "game of life", as far as can reasonably be expected. It is still sad - but it's not a life cut short.

That said I did mount a rather vocal opposition to the death list game this year, which didn't go down very well to be honest. I got in twouble for listing all of a member's family . I guess thinking about what I said above... The absolute worst part of that "game" is that a full life lived out isn't worth many points, and the "biggest scores" come into play for lives that have ended before you would expect. Lives cut shorter = more points. It is just gross.

I don't understand what is expected of a man who's 100 nearly in age . Nobody is wishing him bad, but we all know he's getting on.

And I never get involved in the deathlist on here either. As regardless of ill health or age,it will always be morbid .

When someone is dead and gone and they have had a good long life...which to me is 85 upwards, its fine to speak those words. However when you are still breathing and have your wits about you...and mentally you feel could go on for a few more.... its the last thing you want to read or hear.

I've seen so much disrespect about death on TiBB lately. Maybe we can have a poll on what age is okay for someone to die so that people can have a laugh about it. I mean, at what age does it stop being sad for a family?

It's all hilarious.
Well regardless of the age of the person who dies, their family and friends will find it too early, or a big shock, or really sad, or all of the above. It never stops getting sad for family, as far as I know. But talking about celeb deaths, and family deaths...is kind of a different thing.

I wouldnt be too arsed about being on the deathlist either thinking about it (not something i have ever considered until this post) though I know that was not the point of your reply..just was a weird thing to think through there!

But yeah, comparing deaths of loved ones, to deaths of largely strangers..is not really a fair comparison..especially 100 year old celeb strangers. Its not really like saying 'oh, your gran had good innings, chin up' or something

...it’s such good news that Philip’s procedure went well ....and hopefully his recovery will be equally as successful and what it’s hoped to be by his medical team...

It is better news.
He does come across as a very determined character.
With the best around him medically he could have, all hopefully will go well from now.

...yeah, he does seem very strong willed and that’s not to be underestimated, Joey...I’m feeling as well, that with a 99yr old...?...his medical team wouldn’t have performed the procedure or considered it even, if they weren’t quite hopeful...?...that’s what I’m hoping, anyway...

At 99 you're more at risk from the anesthesia than the actual procedure so they must have been confident he was strong enough to get through it. Hope he has a good recovery.

things do seem more optimistic now. The palace seem to be very careful in what info they are giving out, more so than usual

...that’s the best cardiac care hospital, isn’t it...?...I guess they were possibly waiting for his infection to be treated at the previous hospital so that he was well enough to be transferred for the procedure...

...so hopefully his recovery will be relatively speedy now...not plain sailing as such because he’s still very vulnerable with health conditions and age...I don’t reckon he’ll do much sailing anymore...
