Remembering Kerry

I think the revelations from both Prince Harry and Meghan on the lack of support of help with mental health in the Royal set up, or to be given the freedom of seeking it independently while a full working Royal.
Is one strong thing that the Royal set up must change. If things don't change then although this poll is small on here, the names of the reasoned people I respect on here, who would abolish it. Well that should be a concern. Last night this poll sparked me off to text and e mail family and friends to get as many thoughts from those I know who are like me, a Royalist/Monarchist. As myself, I'd still not like to have like a President set up. Someone said be careful what you wish for. As I said so many names I respect on here have voted, they'd abolish it. That says a lot to me. Of my own just personal, NOT SCIENTIFIC, sample, a bit larger than the votes above. Of 47 I've heard from. All usually supportive of the Monarchy. 14 would support abolishing the Monarchy. 21 would support keeping it. 12 now are not certain either way. It's not scientific, however the view there seems to be reflecting more this tibb poll. With a move to of now abolishing it. Then to keep it, it needs drastic and rapid reform at the very least. This situation with Prince Harry and Meghan could bring massive problems for this rigid cold institution. This is not now coming from Sarah Ferguson, or Diana or just Meghan. For near half the interview, Prince Harry himself, was revealing all that brought him mental anguish. His fears for his wife and family. With no support from the Palace. That's from a full born and bred Royal now. That's a significant insight from a full Royal at the time. Last edited by joeysteele; 09-03-2021 at 10:33 AM. |

The Royal set up likely sees mental health as being weak. No sensitivity, compassion and no support. Brushing it aside. As sadly some in general society still do when not taking seriously the word of those who even find the courage to speak out as to their mental health needs and concerns. To just dismiss them as weak or liars. Disgraceful. No wonder a stigma still exists around mental health and why it's still pretty much a second rate service generally across the Nation too. are people seriously suggesting that Harry and Meghan didn't have the capability to arrange their own medical professionals if they so wished and were held down against their will by the family in order to stop them? I don't think i've ever heard such nonsense

The over ceremonialised nature of the UK government feels really silly, especially stuff like the big gold 'talking stick' they have in the House of Commons.

People always mention tourism when the role of the royal family is called into question. But they do much more than that, they are charity and arts patrons, they entertain diplomats and industrialists, bringing in business and trade and they are major employers. The queen is the head of the Commonwealth, the countries that used to be a part of the Empire but now choose to be a part of the Commonwealth. And sometimes people join even though they were never a part of the British empire.

The monarchy should be brought to an end after the queen dies.
I used to tolerate it's existence because of the tourism money it brought in, but by fostering a culture of hatred towards a woman who once asked them for help because she was feeling suicidal, by repeating the mistakes of the past and protecting a peadophile, the system does more harm than good. If it doesn't get abolished, the whole system needs modernising completely, but I doubt it will happen. Give it another 25 years or so and Harry and Will's kids and their other halves will face the same scrutiny. History is doomed to repeat itself. |
