Default Making tea or coffee with bottled water

After seeing 'stringy things' in my drinking tap water, I decided (it hadn't killed me but...) I'd use bottled water.

Boil in the kettle and what a difference.

I buy 20 bottles of still water at my local 'cheapo' shop for £1.

Pour one bottle (500ml) into the kettle. It makes the perfect cup of coffee. You're boiling less water and you're saving on electricity too.

Does anyone else do it?

Gusto are you somewhere in the North? I read on my aquarium groups that the water up there sucks, is killing fish.

Anyway, using bottled water is a bit redundant as the boiling will get rid of any badness (and a lot of the goodness).

No because when boil water even if there are nasties in it it is boiled away so it seems like a waste of money but hey if you think it tastes different go for it.

I will give it a try and let you know

Doesn't seem very efficient, could always just use a water purifier which will probably give the same result as cheap bottled water

just use a water filter surely if you dont like what comes out the tap.

Bottled water can potentially contain many more elements that are harmful to you than tap water. For example, there is a reason for the chemicals that are added to the supply

Maybe your tap needs a clean?

It can get stringy around the hole.

Does your kettle not have a sieve to the spout?

Seems expensive way to do it

You can taste the chemicals in the water down here. I use tap for the kettle (though the kettle has a filter) but i do drink bottled water for the most part.

With bottled water you never know how long it has sat in storage, in a plastic bottle and therefore probably has far more chemicals that have leached into it than tap water.

My tap water is miles nicer than bottled. I just let the tap run for a bit so it gets nice and cold and then its perfect.

The chemicals are so strong in the water where i am that if the water is anything but ice cold it almost burns your throat.

Thanks for your replies. I just think it's a very small price to pay for a nice cup of coffee. And like I said, I can taste the difference.

Did you know the water you drink from the tap has been 'cleaned' hundreds of times with 'chemicals'?

That water is the same water you use to flush the loo and all the nasty things in that water.

I used to use Evian water to make tea. It does taste different, because of the minerals, but I just use tap water now.

Madness if you ask me.

But if people want to waste money then it's up to them I suppose.

You kill any bacteria as soon as you boil water in a kettle.
