Default If it wasn’t for brexit we’d be going into a 3rd wave of deaths

With the rest of the EU

Thank god for brexit.

they are just getting the nastier variants there now, but if for example the SA variant that is running wild in France takes hold here, we could be in a bit of bother. The next month or so is pretty critical.

That’s not true, the first peak was March and April, the second peak was literally Nov-Jan. you can’t call fluctuations and changes in restrictions as peaks, or whenever the curve goes up a little bit as a peak, scientifically those would be regarded as fluctuations, it’s only a peak when it’s significant

Can we all follow the facts and science please.

To be fair almoast all European countries count the deaths differently, the U.K. count deaths as anyone who had covid 19 in their system (typically remains for 30 days, can even be longer), therefore any person dying of old age who happened to have covid will count as a covid death, as would someone in a car accident who died by the impact who happened to have covid.

Considering around 700k people die each year just normally, it’s quite likely a proportion of these (let’s use 5% as a base, although this is not accurate just as an example) died as they would and had contacted covid at some point, meaning our deaths are overstated

The U.K. has the most overstated way of counting deaths, it’s also like saying China only had like 3k deaths because of the way they have counted their deaths (by not counting them)... it’s not that accurate to compare

Great post DouglasS. It's never as simple as just buying the tabloid narrative, sometimes you need to delve deeper.

Firstly that’s looking at cases which are based on testing and school testing rising later, you can use any metric and the graph will change. Secondly the cases metric will not even show the first peak because of the above and the testing cases metric not being the best indication.

Thirdly peak wise, there’s been two. Although you could argue there have been three waves, but it’s pretty obvious that the second wave prolonged into the third, it didn’t really drop, just a few restrictions had been put in place to prevent a wave/peak, which lowered things for about 2 weeks before it rose again, scientifically you wouldn’t call that another peak a month later.. that’s not how pandemics or epidemics are regarded, it will Count as one wave
