Daft question ,but how long realistically do you think we'll have to keep wearing masks / face coverings whilst keeping our 2m distance aswell ? .

I can't say how long would be the advice from official sources.
However, I'll continue for the foreseeable future.

I haven't even had a sniffle this year or any kind of tickly cough even since wearing the masks.

once the mandatory requirement goes in july, pubs, shops and the like will be happy to see the back of them, and they can't make something like that mandatory themselves because people just wont go there.

I'm all for continuing the practice where people are in close proximity, like the tube or on an aircraft though, i think thats just smart

I think optional uses of masks are here to stay once restrictions are lifted. It's a practice that has helped countries in Asia bounce back quickly despite being on the frontlines of the virus initially because a lot of countries in the region see it as basic consideration to wear a mask if you are feeling unwell or if there's risk of ailments spreading.

It is a practice we could do with cultivating in this country.

I think they'll stop being mandatory within 2021 but I agree we should adopt it as etiquette like in various Asian countries; if you have a cough or cold, do everyone a favour and wear a mask out and about.

I also think it would be sensible for people to wear them voluntarily on things like busy public transport (the London underground, yuck).

An old school pal of mine became an aircraft engineer and he actually posted on The Facebooks a detailed explanation (with diagrams) of why this isn't actually true in modern jets. They pull in fresh air from outside and eject the old air, so the air is actually being constantly refreshed and doesn't cycle round the cabin at all. Fascinating stuff. He posted it ages ago but obviously I only saw it recently on my annual spring Facebook log-in to tell the gardener it's time to start coming round again.

Fair but I'd argue it's likely to be a lot cleaner than the London tube, or the last train out of Central on a Saturday night (which could only ever be described as utterly horrifying, just thinking about it is triggering some sort of PTSD... A hot tin can full of vomit, piss and sectarian chanting)
