Get this whole undemocratic party gone for me . just extreme and awful as to all of them in my view.

It's scary that in N Ireland, this party still gets the most votes in elections.
Really worrying.

It's about time these parties started viewing NI as a whole country with citizens who identify as Irish and as British and trying to accommodate them both. What harm does it do to a British identifying Northern Irish citizen? No one is going to force them to learn Irish.

there is a requirement in scotland that a certain proportion of the tv programs have to be in gaelic, and i think there are about 3 people in the whole country who can actually speak it

I think Irish (certainly in the Republic anyway) is much more popular(?) though. We still have towns and Islands around Ireland (not loads but a good few) that speak Irish as their first language and also it's a subject taught all the way through both primary and secondary school. Most Irish people have at least a basic knowledge of the Irish language

tell that to RTE when they basically ignore Irish language, never even used it once (not even back in the years of own language rule) at ESC

TG4 on the other hand, they love using it at Junior ESC

You may not know as an ex-pat but it's not really "a thing" any more like it was in yesteryear. Like, I think the proportion still exists but because the "digital transition" is complete now (so everyone has at least Freeview), BBC Alba/CBeebies Alba more than meets the required "quota" and all rest of it was shifted over there too. None of it airs on the "main" channels these days.

It's a shame, kids in 2021 will never know the confusion of turning on kids TV only to find them all speaking Simlish.

Yeah Scottish Gaelic is all but dead other than some very select parts of the highlands & islands - and even there, it's mostly "taught" for traditional reasons, rather than being spoken by families as a first language. There are still plenty of remnants scattered throughout Scottish-dialect English of course.

Ye Olde languages seem to have survived better in Ireland and Wales.

From what I've seen of Scottish gaelic, it seems very similar to Irish, so similar a person speaking Irish and a person speaking Scottish gaelic might actually understand eachother Welsh is totally different though

As an aside, it’s nothing to do with the people who vote for the DUP agreeing with some of their politician’s backward ideas either. I don’t know one DUP voter who does. Poots was one of the worst dinosaurs, so good riddance.

Many Protestants vote DUP to stop Sinn Fein becoming the dominant party, many Catholics vote for Sinn Fein to stop the DUP being dominant. It’s fear from both sides, a leftover from the Troubles.
The other parties are left behind now, like mine (the SDLP) Alliance and the Unionist Party. Being from a mixed marriage, I was a kid terrified that my Mum or Dad would be murdered by a Catholic OR a Protestant, cos being married to one of ‘them’ was enough to get you killed, especially as my Dad was in politics.
I think the DUP aren’t going to last much longer as a dominant party, they are a mess.

For an anti-abortion party, they sure as hell don't like going full term, do they?

I've never liked Donaldson.

Mind you that's not saying much because I'll freely and happily admit I intensely dislike this political Party and therefore really don't care who leads it.

As I've not an ounce of respect for those in it.
So as to myself I do hold a biased and intolerant view of the DUP.
