Home secretary Priti Patel delivered a key-note speech on immigration at a conference on Monday, pledging to “fix” Britain’s “broken immigration system”. Ms Patel has spoken publicly this weekend about immigration reforms announced in the Queen’s Speech a fortnight ago, calling out those who wish to “sow dissent” by labelling reforms as “anti-immigration” and insisting the government has a mandate from the electorate which is “impossible” to ignore. Speaking at a conference organised by the Bright Blue and British Future think tanks, Ms Patel addressed current concerns about immigration and unveiled her plans for future reforms. “It was seen as entirely proper for the British people to express their wishes at the ballot box on matters such as taxation, healthcare, education, pensions, international relations, the environment and law and order, and yet concerns about immigration, its impact upon communities, would in some quarters be met with derision and scorn by parts of the political class,” the home secretary claimed. “Far too many politicians were indifferent to public opinion about this issue and too many were happy to assert that even raising the topic of immigration was racist. “It has taken a referendum and a change of government for politicians to recognise that by ignoring this issue, public frustration has also contributed and led to the reframing of this debate. “It is a fact that successive governments have failed to control immigration. The problems and unhappiness became impossible for any politician to continue to ignore.” Ms Patel said that in the Brexit referendum, “the British people voted to take back control of our borders. “They then drove the message home again at the 2019 general election,” she added, insisting that “political parties have a responsibility to face reality. “People from every part of the world are here in the UK and are making enormous contributions for society, culture, economy and individual lives. We all cherish this and I want this to be part of our national life and our place in the world.” However, Ms Patel insisted that whilst sensible levels of immigration can bring positives to British culture and economy, “it is sheer fantasy to say that we can give a home to anyone who wants to come here” and pledged that new reforms would ensure control over numbers and fairness across the board. https://foxhole.news/2021/05/24/pate...-to-come-here/ finally we are getting somewhere? |

Who cares about what that evil hypocritical bully has to say. She wouldn't be where she was without immigration.

Not all she says is wrong, I concede that.
However I'm not going to be lectured to or believe the word of a Woman who has been found to operate a bullying environment with her staff. Who deliberately deceived and lied to the Nation, Parliament and her own then PM, Theresa May too. Where she had to lose her previous trusted ministerial post. The fact this PM brought such a person back as a Minister shows his terrible and incompetent judgement. I'm surprised how many of my Con contacts have no time for Patel either. Her past deceit and lies should have had her never in any post, where she professionally gets to make decisions on any other person's or peoples lives. No way. She's vile and I cannot trust or believe near all she says really. An awful politician of the worst kind too. Last edited by joeysteele; 25-05-2021 at 08:51 AM. |

i think all we want is a fair and transparent immigration system. I don't get all the fuss. Those here illegally shouldn't be here, and should be deported. Simple

Immigration is, and will always be, an issue akin to a bright light for the mothlike public. A easy way to appeal to the gullible and their biases by making out they should fear those below so they don't crane their necks looking above.
No, immigrants aren't coming for your jobs, they aren't draining the system, they aren't impacting your life. They're just a convenient target of hatred by a public that makes them easily led into voting against themselves. |

far be it for me to defend Diane Abbot, but until the police come out with a clear statement on why this was not a targeted attack, Diane and others can speculate as much as they want

We had 30 year old men being allowed to come into this country claiming they were 13 year old boys
We had serious criminals coming in committing crimes and being allowed to stay in this country And why were they allowed to stay because Europe to us we had no choice Well we got our vote and we to Europe to go f themselves And they tryed every trick in the book to keep up in Europe under their control |
