Default Major newspaper and government websites down

A number of leading media websites are currently not working, including the Guardian, Financial Times, Independent and the New York Times.

The UK government website - gov.uk - is also down.

Affected websites displayed the message: "Error 503 Service Unavailable".

Early reports have suggested it could be related to Fastly, a cloud computing provider, which underpins a lot of major websites.

------

Seems like a targeted attack to me

Not necessarily an attack if they're all using the same cloud services; this has happened before when lots of major sites are using the same services. One bug can take down half the internet.

Major websites have been taken offline in the wake of a mystery outage across the internet on Tuesday.

The gov.uk website, Pinterest, Reddit and media outlets including the New York Times, Guardian and Financial Times are unavailable with users receiving an "Error 503 service unavailable" message.

That indicates web servers are unable to handle requests to access the websites.

Reports suggest that the issue has been caused by problems at Fastly, a data centre provider used by Amazon Web Services, Amazon's cloud computing division.

We're safe over here on TiBB right James? So long as the terrorists don't launch an attack on CheapAndCheerfulHosting.com .

The only worries we have here are people starting one too many "counting games" in chat, woefully overworking the hamsters on the wheels powering the servers.
