Annaliese, put the cat among the pigeons as to policy.
Hold on to policies of more public ownership.
However really stir the pot and adopt a policy of PR in general and council elections.

The conference would back it I feel pretty sure.

Only one party of ALL UK parties would be against and would be reduced to near panic.
That's the Cons.

This by election will be easily held by the Cons.
A non event really.

Set a new narrative of PR, then I believe things could change dramatically.

it is a serious problem for labour, they haven't come out with a new policy that i am aware of since Corbyn was smashed at the last election. What do labour actually stand for under Keir other than an ineffective protest group in parliament

It is a by election however I didn't see this coming.

Labour votes were low in this seat so clearly wiser of Labour voters to back the Lib Dems.
However it's a comfortable win for the Lib Dems.
Taking well over half the votes cast.

I wouldn't worry however.
In a general election it may just revert back to the Cons..
As has been the case in by elections over the last decades too.

The HS2 was an issue here admittedly too.

Starmer has to go. We can use the fact labour knew there was a tactical vote going on, but they still spent resources campaigning etc, so they certainly didn't act as though it was expected.

labour are expected to win that seat though, so nothing can be drawn from it unless they lose it, which is highly unlikely

It's not that unlikely. Labours own internal polling shows the white working class voters there are constantly on about Palestine which labour aren't talking about, so Galloway is actually pulling their pants down with voters. I'll be really interested to see the results.

It is a seat where Labour actually have only come second in it once.
Ironically under Corbyn in 2017.

Even in Blair's landslides Labour were still only a well behind 3rd here.

It made sense for Labour votes to switch to Lib Dem to get the Con out.
