Default Germany: Espelkamp shooting 2 dead

TWO people have been killed in a shooting in Espelkamp, according to reports.

Armed police are attending the scene in the western German town and the area has been cordoned off. A man and a woman were killed in the shooting.

Police said one of the two had been killed inside a house and the other just outside it.

Police said that an initial investigation did not point to terrorism.

"As things stand it looks like it was a crime rather than terrorism," a police spokesperson said.

German newspaper Bild quoted police as saying that the situation appeared to be a case of someone "running amok".

A police spokesman told FOCUS Online that a major operation was underway.

Espelkamp, a town of some 20,000 people, is in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
