Default Boy, 5, dies after suffering head injury at Essex department store…

A five-year-old boy has died after suffering a serious head injury in a high street store in Essex a week ago.

Emergency services were called to the Fenwick department store in Colchester High Street at around 11.30am on July 27 following reports a child had been injured.

He was taken hospital for treatment after being given emergency treatment at the scene by police officers.

Essex Police has now confirmed the little boy has died as a result of his injuries with his family are now being supported by specialist officers

District Commander for Colchester Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston, said: “I know I speak for all of my teams when I say that we are extremely saddened by today’s news.

“This is a truly heart-breaking incident and all of our thoughts are with the boy’s loved ones.”

He added: “On behalf of my attending officers, I would also like to thank the members of the public and store staff who went above and beyond to assist us. We are extremely grateful for your help.”

The Fenwick store will be closed on Wednesday “as a mark of respect”.

Mia Fenwick, director at Fenwick, said: “On behalf of the Fenwick family, and the entire Fenwick team, it is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of a young boy following an incident at our Colchester store last week.

“All our thoughts and prayers are with the child’s family and friends at this very painful time.

“We continue to work closely with the local authorities to understand how this happened.”

…we’ll wait to see more information on this but so, so terribly tragic…the world of that family right now…<\3….
