This wouldn't surprise me, the only problem is I didn't find him particularly likeable, whereas Dexter is rather endearing

Because he isn't Dexter and we've already heard Dexter's story start to finish

Yeah me neither and don't even talk to me about the way he eats and why they felt the need to have him eat something at least 2 times in each episode

Yeah I don't think another season would work - I could see them trying to do it with Dexter still in it, as the new Harry/Deb "on Harrison's shoulder" but I agree that it makes no sense - the overall impression I got from the show was that Harrison actually wasn't like Dexter - or even that DEXTER didn't have to be like Dexter - that with help, therapy for what happened to them as children, they could actually have overcome the darker urges. That was hinted at right from the start - Dexter successfully lived a normal life in a normal community for several years without needing to kill.
I feel like Harrison constantly trying to justify it as them helping innocent people, not being able to handle being in that bunker for the dismembering, being horrified that Dexter had killed Logan, showing some guilt/remorse for what he did to Ethan, etc... as well as having clear genuine affection for Audrey and wanting that family unit with his dad and Angela (whereas Dexter was pretty much always faking his connections)... shows that he was never quite on that same path, and it was somewhat "wishful thinking" from Dexter. He was into the "hero vigilante" idea somewhat but he saw it for what it was in the end - an excuse to kill with as few consequences as possible. He helped Dexter to see that in the end, too. To retcon all that and have him become a killer would undo the whole narrative ... which was actually rather good. HOWEVER I have read that the viewership is extremely high for the network it airs on in the US (Showtime) - the highest in the channel's history - so it's likely that the channel itself would have been keen for more. If Dexter himself wasn't dead I'd have said it was a certainty. They might try anyway which would be ... a shame. Last edited by Toy Soldier; 12-01-2022 at 01:29 PM. |

Exactly TS. Exactly my thoughts too. They really need to leave it alone now, they've made up for that horrific previous season and I'm really satisfied with how they ended it.
I was actually just reading an article and the literal *only* idea I thought might be good with bringing it back (I still don't think they should but I may give this a look if they did this) Was if Dexter didn't die (even though he quite clearly did with all that blood he lost) but he was arrested and locked up for life but they turned it into a Detective Show where they'd use Dexter as a sort of Serial Killer consultant (ala Hannibal Lector/Silence of the lambs)

Also one thing that always bothered me a bit which was a bit of a plot hole (ish) is why Dexter never thought about sending Harrison to go live with his mothers(Rita) family, he had a sister and a brother he hadn't seen since Rita died and grandparents that they lived with. Wouldn't that have been the sensible option if he wanted Harrison to turn out "normal" and why did Harrison never think about finding his siblings and Grandparents?

I just had a look back to see how that episode ended - that would actually have been a GREAT season finale if there was going to be a Season 2 .
Actually now I'm sad that it wasn't. It essentially ends with them taking out Kurt, Dexter's house is burnt down, and Dexter and Harrison have just moved in with Angela ... only for Angela to get the "Jim Lindsay Killed Matt Caldwell" letter as the final scene. Restuctured a bit, they could definitely have fleshed out a whole season with Angela slowly figuring out that Dexter is the Bay Harbour Butcher. You could scrap all of the stuff that she learned in the latter part of this season (the drug dealer/ketamine injections etc.) and had it that she had no suspicions about him at all until getting that letter - then she slowly pieces together all of that other stuff in a second season. Meanwhile, Dexter and Harrison stalk + catch another killer, and Harrison is figuring out that he isn't the same and doesn't really want this life. Ending on basically the same episode as it did. I'd watch it. |

Reading a bit more online, wow some people really hated the ending (although reading what they thought should have happened or wanted to happen really misses the whole point (imo) of what the writers were going for and I would have hated most of what those who hated it are suggesting

From interviews I've read though, the writers/director had a very clear creative vision and narrative for the series and Dexter's fate was a big part of that ... people have even asked "could Dexter survive?" and he's been very adamant and said "No, to be clear, Dexter is dead." |
