Thumbs down Captain Tom’s charity reported to watchdog as daughter gives herself over 50k

He may have raised £33 million for the NHS, but Captain Tom’s daughter has awarded herself and her companies over £50,000 of public donation, for ‘photography, accomodation and travel costs’

Captain Tom’s charity has come under fire today after their accounts were published - showing more money has been spent on his daughter’s company and ‘management costs’ than has been spent on DONATING to other organisations…

The total spent by the charity on ‘management’ costs, was £162,000 between May 2020 and May 2021, MORE money than was given to the four trusts they gave grants to.

His daughter Hannah Ingam-Moore rewarded herself with £37,000 and £16, 000, for her two companies, however she has claimed these were reimbursements for a range of costs previously bought for Tom l during his fundraising efforts, including ‘accomodation, security, and PHOTOGRAPHY’

Meanwhile she secretly gave herself nearly £2,000 to cover ‘post and travel costs’.

Ms Ingram-Moore, Tom’s daughter

The Charity Commission, run by the government, has been forced to open a case after eyebrows were raised over the suspicious donations given to her companies.

She should have not had a penny, and any decent person would have absorbed any 'costs incurred' from their personal finances

Most charities "skim" a heck of a lot more than £160k out of £33 million .

More like... Half. Sometimes more.

Think the difference here is there was no need to set it up as a charity, there was no further fundraising, they could have divvied up the cash to various good causes without having to set one up....sounds very dodgy indeed

The £33 million was donated directly to the NHS in April/May 2020, this lady couldn’t get her hands on it

This charity was set up after that, in June 2020, people have donated to it since, and that’s where the 160k has been stolen from

tom actually raised money for the nhs and he lifted the spirits of the public when they needed it, so I consider that completely different to the family then setting up a scam charity after he died

Exactly, I think it is appalling what they have done. I appreciate they wanted to keep him memory alive but I think they made a mistake in creating this charity

It costs money to run a charity in reality and it’s not anything new for people who run the charity and those involved to be paid.

The dirty side of it is how much is being paid to those working within the charity.

The money he raised wasn't a one-off, there is a Captain Tom Foundation that continues to receive money and give to good causes. Can't quite believe what I'm reading on this thread... how much do you think it costs to run a charity? Have a drive past some of the big charities - Red Cross, Oxfam, Cancer Research UK - any of them, and take a look at the cars in the car park. It'll give you some idea of the salaries.

tbh I had no idea they set up a charity, or that it was not a one off, the charity hasn't been advertised very well

The £10k that was supposed to be used for advertising was used on ‘photography’

CEOs of charities are amongst the highest paid. The CEO of Cancer Research, Michelle Mitchell, was paid a basic salary of £215,500 between April 2020 and March 2021. It is not unusual for top level employees to be paid well into 6 figures

It's pretty disgraceful though imo, obviously they have to be paid something but money like that paid by ordinary people trying to help those in need is a bit of a slap in the face to them
