Why are we still blaming the EU for enforcing 'rules'?

my car already has an option to limit speed to the current speed limit of the road. I question the safety of limiting speed because some times you need a bit of power to avoid a dangerous situation. So it depends how they are going to implement it. In my car you can force it to override the limit which for me is the ideal compromise

Due to a leg injury, it's hard for me to control how hard I press down on the accelerator - having something which means I can programme it to "don't go above 25 even if I floor it" would actually be really handy.

This happened to me on a roundabout yesterday, if I hadn't have been able to give a little extra gas then the eejit that flew round the inside would've broadsides me! :/

Yes, our car randomly went into "limp mode" (engine limits to 3000 revs because its picked up a fault) half way down the M6 a few months ago... Just as we were overtaking a massive truck. Suddenly lost a load of power and couldn't get up to speed. Terrifying.

There wasn't even a "real" problem, the plug for the air filter sensor had wriggled loose so it was picking up a potential fault with the air filter - when there wasn't one, the engine was totally fine, just an issue with the sensor itself .

Seems like they're attempting to point the finger at the EU rules while limiting most roads anyway.
