Default Netherlands Kings Day 2022 Maastricht Today April 27th

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2022/0...ajor-problems/

Kings Night last night was very crowded in the cities, many parties but without major problems

Quote:
Koningsnacht, the night before King’s Day when many towns and cities organise music events, passed off without major incidents, but it was so busy in Utrecht and Apeldoorn that local officials urged people to stay away.

In Utrecht, where the market traditionally kicks off at the end of the afternoon, officials said at 10.30 pm that people should avoid the city centre because all the locations where events were taking place were full.

In Amsterdam police said it was busy but not unmanageable while in The Hague, thousands of people turned up for the The Life I Live festival. It was also busy in Groningen, where there were live performances on small stages throughout the city centre.

Nu.nl reported that in Apeldoorn riot police were brought in to break up the crowds in several locations and ordered people to leave because so many had turned up. It is the first time in three years that Koningsnacht has been celebrated because of coronavirus.

Kings Birthday Honours 2022

Quote:
More than 3,000 people have received honours in the annual ‘lintjesregen’ to mark King Willem-Alexander’s birthday.

Among those recognised by the monarch are Eva González Pérez, the lawyer who represented many of the victims of the childcare benefits scandal that triggered the resignation of Mark Rutte’s last government 15 months ago.

Aruban writer Quito Nicolaas is one of 58 people from the Dutch Caribbean territories to be included on the list, in recognition of his contribution to the island’s culture.

Eleven people were made knights in the order of Oranje-Nassau, including former journalist and impresario Henk van der Meijden, best known as the founder of celebrity magazine Privé.

Labour (PvdA) politician Gerdi Verbeek, who chaired the lower house (Tweede Kamer) from 2002 and 2006 and went on to head the May 4 and 5 committee, which organises the remembrance and liberation day events.

The vast majority of the 3,026 people selected for honours were nominated by their community for volunteer work. They ranged in age from 97-year-old Piet Schreuder, a First Aid volunteer in Arnhem, to 33-year-old breakdancer Menno van Gorp, who won the inaugural World Breaking Championship in 2013.

Men were nearly twice as likely as women to receive a distinction, with the full list comprising 1,933 men and 1,093 women.

A second survey has highlighted the downturn in support for king Willem-Alexander and the criticism of the way he acted during the coronavirus crisis. Last week, a poll involving 26,000 people for television show EenVandaag showed just 54% have faith in the monarch and now an Ipsos survey for news channel NOS paints a similar picture.

Just 47% of those in the NOS survey have confidence in the way the king does his job and only similar percentage think he performed well during the past two years. Before coronavirus hit, 75% thought the king was performing well.

The two years of coronavirus have been particularly damning for the royals, following a string of blunders over holidays, and culminating in a small party for oldest daughter Amalia when she turned 18 during the lockdown at the end of last year.

The Ipsos survey gave the king a personal score of 6.7 out of 10, which is well down on the 7.7 he scored in 2020. Queen Máxima’s score of 7.6 is virtually unchanged on 2021 but down on her 2020 rating of 8. Seven in 10 of survey respondents said they thought she was doing a good job.

Despite the criticism, 58% still support the monarchy as an institution, roughly in line with the EenVandaag figure.

this year it is celebrated in Maastricht by our royal family, a city which was intended at first for 2020 but then everything got cancelled by covid pandemic
