Interesting how female MPs and staffers are using someone looking at images on his phone as a launchpad to talk about actual harassment they face in the Commons...

It's almost like there's a connection between the production of pornography and women being exploited #hmmmm

There is a fundamental problem. Prospective MP's are not subjected to any real form of scrutiny by voters before an election. Yes, the media drag up some dirt for headlines occasionally, but if you think that there could be 5 candidates for every seat, thats something like 4000 candidates that could have all sorts of skeletons in the closet and no-one has a clue when they get elected.

Thats where the process needs to change.

To be fair a lot of the information is out there, especially from the perspective of voting for someone in your local seat.

"K" isn't a particularly small town, but when I saw the Green and Lib Dem candidates in 2019 I groaned. I knew (/of) them both, and as those are the only parties I'd have considered voting for, I had no choice but to spoil my ballet.

The Green guy just loves a good photo op, I swear that's what he puts above actually protecting green issues in and around the town, any day now he's gonna disappear up his own ass.

There was an ex-MP on the radio last night who said the culture of drinking and drug taking is massive. With the House often sitting into the evening and voting its often the case they'll go for a pint inbetween votes. On long sittings they'll have had 5 or 6 by the time the most important vote comes around. He also said its the same with journalists which made him a bit annoyed at some of their indignation now when they're just as big a part of the culture

There needs to be a ban on drinking during sittings and mobile phone use, I don’t know any profession where drinking while working is acceptable, plenty people have to sit around waiting for work...taxi drivers for example, their judgement must be seriously impaired by the time they get to vote if they are necking 6 drinks in a short period

as i've said before, it's not like mp's havent been warned to modify their behaviour. The expenses scandal should have been a big wake up call, but they have just gone on to abuse their position in a dozen other ways. There has to be fundamental change, and i dont trust parliament to self regulate

that's just nonsense. Google doesnt provide search results for porn unless you specifically go down the porn path. You have to be very specific in what you are searching for

[Former MP Neil Parish who resigned after watching
pornography in the Commons says he might run in by-election

Neil Parish, who resigned last month after
admitting watching porn in "a moment of madness",
said running as an independent candidate
in the upcoming by-election in his
old constituency was "an option" - and that he could
rely on money from his "powerful backers
in the farming community".]

Another By Election
that same date as Khan MP

https://www.midweekherald.co.uk/news...ection-8978090

[Voters in Honiton looks set to go to the polls to
elect their MP on Thursday, June 23,
date has reportedly been set for a by-election.

Disgraced former Tiverton and
Honiton MP Neil Parish, who is a farmer by trade,
was forced to resign after admitting
watching X-rated videos,
first saying he accidentally viewed one
when browsing for tractors,
before later doing so deliberately
in the Commons chamber.]
