![]() In a podcast interview, the former England footballer says that he suffered racist abuse at school and during his career because of his ‘darkish skin’. It’s appalling if Lineker really was picked on for his skin colour, but it’s unclear why Lineker is telling us this now. ‘I wouldn’t ever name any names,’ he says of those who abused him. Why not? Should those who face similar unacceptable abuse do the same as Gary and keep schtum about their abusers? Surely if we are to kick racism out of football it’s better to name and shame the perpetrators. Lineker also maintains he is “as English as they come” https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/...ly-abused-him- |

If he named names the same people pretending they care (about him not) would just cry about cancel culture instead.

Why would you name kids that bullied you when they were 14 who will now be adults in their 50's
![]() Imagine if I took to social media today to name these people now in their late 30's as racists ![]() |

If I repeated on the Internet half of the stuff that was said by people at School when they were 10 years old would see them cancelled in an instant. But in fairness it doesn't shape who they are as people now.

I understand where he’s coming from but Italian people are not an entirely-separate race to broad Caucasia (even if they are a little borderline). Who’s going to call him the n.-word?

What TS said can happen / does happen to people with different features, even when they're white ..if they have fuller lips or curly hair,or bigger nose ,or tanned in complexion etc people... especially kids ( as they can be so cruel) ,will find any little thing to bully you for .

Ignorant kids, I guess. My friend wasn’t even full Italian, his mum was a very white little Scottish woman, but like I said he had very dark features (dark brown eyes, almost black hair, etc) and in summer quickly took a deep tan. I grew up in Ayrshire, there were no non-white kids at my primary school of 350, and literally maybe 4 or 5 at my high school of over 1000), basically no racial diversity whatsoever, so really any difference was singled out. Small town mentality. He also got “Pakistani”, in less polite abbreviated terms, quite a lot in his early teens. Less so when older, I think he started to look more obviously Italian/Mediterranean as his features matured. |

Most towns in Scotland have Italian families, when i was at school their families ran brilliant cafes and chippys and still do here. The Nardinis were at my school and noone bothered them 2 or they would batter them. I remember seeing the older Nardini destroy some lad who called him a "darkie"
and by destroy i mean leather him black and blue There was no messing around with that family |

They used to call me milky bar at school because they were jealous of my beautiful pure white skin.
