The Red Wall fell because people were put off by Corbyn, thought Boris was a "good old boy", and wanted Brexit to stop being endlessly dragged out. Whether they were right or wrong to vote based on this neither here nor there at this point - Corbyn is gone, Boris has shown what he really is to those who weren't paying attention before he became PM, and we're no longer in the EU.

At the next election, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Red Wall were restored.

It just highlights the desperation of mp's to stay on the gravy train. Labour should not be accepting Tories into the party, and no one who believes in tory policy should even want to join a labour party.
