You could have made us sandwiches, and I would have brought drinks and crisps.

I mean, it is amusing that a bunch of well-off people who get paid silly amounts just to talk are charging the unemployed for the privilege of listening to them, while professing to be Marxists ... But does it really matter? They're not gonna change the world or win any hearts. As long as they're not calling for violence, let them have their little events.

Why is it funny? Marx wasn't against money, he just didn't want bosses to have it all and workers to get screwed over and work for poverty wages. He also wanted profits to be taxed more to invest in societal things such as education and leisure spaces etc. What a dangerous kook, eh?

It really becomes apparent on here that those who know nothing about Marx or Marxism are the folks who believe they know the most.

Isnt Marxism just a critique of capitalism, its not a workable thing and Marx never said it was?

He was an economist rather than a politician, so there was no real need to offer up a workable alternative, although he did that in his Communist manifesto. It's a little too Utopian for me, but it should be a foundational document for a reimagining of a world system that is currently completely screwed. Whether you're a capitalist, Marxist, Leninist, fascist, or whatever, it's pretty undeniably true, that the widening gap between the rich and poor and the skewed power dynamics that follows, has pretty much put the world onto a path of some impeding fcukery.

The rich folks make the rules so they rule in their favour. Politicians want the rich folks' money, so they do what the rich folks want, and on it goes.

To say it's just a critique of capitalism isn't completely correct. It's actually more about the way that capitalism exploits, and prevents people from maximising their own potential to lead happy and fulfilled lives.

Take Bezos as an example. He has enough money to end world hunger, and still to live out his days without wondering whether he has enough money to pay for anything he wants, yet he spent the weekend riding a roller coaster on his own. It's that created abundance while his work force suffers is the primary issue.
