Exclamation Peckham Shoplifter apprehended, BLM protest

Hundreds of people gathered at the shop spouting anti-Asian sentiments

A 31-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault on Tuesday and later
released on bail.

People in Peckham were asked to remain calm after the video was circulated on
social media.

Speaking to the BBC after Monday's incident but before Tuesday afternoon's
protest, the poor shopkeeper said the woman had become aggressive when she
was refused a refund on products she had previously bought at the store.

"We do not give refunds, we exchange items or give a credit note. So she
grabbed some stuff [three packs of hair with a total value of £24] from the shelf and tried to leave. She was leaving and I was stopping her.

"I was stopping her. She slapped me in the face and grabbed a shopping
basket and hit me on the head. I don't know when my hand goes around her neck. I was keeping her neutralised. I did not hit her.

"The video was cropped. People are acting at the half truth".

This shoplifting and violence to legitimate businesses is out of control

This has literally nothing to do with BLM.

It's not a good look from BLM I'll say that.

Although choking her might be a bit excessive.

he wasnt choking, she was attacking him and he was restraining her as best he could

you cant really choke with one hand in a struggle

her reaction to being told "no you cannot break the law" was shocking

clearly, she had to regard for this Asian Businessman of the community

Oh I agree that her behaviour was shocking.

I just personally think if possible the security could force off the premises in a slightly more gentle way.

Just because Black Lives Matter shared this story doesn’t mean that the people protesting there were necessarily from the BLM recruit. Let’s not even get it twisted or do this racial clickbait thing.

Because I know Peckham and the sort of people it attracts when it comes to stuff like this. BLM couldn’t have less to do with it besides the fact that they happened to share this story. So did the BBC but as far as we know most of the protestors weren’t journalists or news reporters.

We only know one side of the story, arista. I bet you were one of those people who were quick to accuse Naomi Oni of doing a Katie Piper when her ‘friend’ threw acid in her face, until the actual truth came out. You’re always quick to wade in and judge just to sound like a robot with a militant opinion. We’re only getting one side of the story.

I heard that she was trying to get a refund on something. Not steal outright. We can’t be sure either way so I’m not getting involved but this man literally held her by the throat and might as well have choked her. That’s the one I’m reacting to. I don’t know why you think it’s defensible.

A truly evil act.

It’s their right to take what ever they want given what the evil white man did to them, and continues to do to them.

She's a thief and a violent thug. I think the shopkeeper was remarkably restrained in the circumstances.

e

I heard she wanted a cash refund, was refused and offered alternative goods... She wanted cash so protested by trying to steal goods and leave.

Did you see her hitting and kicking him? He probably puts up with this behaviour regularly. Now a man's business is in tatters. I'm shocke d anyone thinks this woman was right.

The photo of him with his hands on her throat are not a good look but are a snapshot of what happened, she is not entitled to take whatever she wants from any shop regardless of what has happened here, no shop HAS to give you a refund or replacement if there is nothing wrong with the original goods, he offered her a replacement which should have been good enough, now his business is ruined, I dont know how these protesters sleep at night, this is not a racial issue, its an issue between the shop owner and the customer and absolutely nothing to do with the protesters

This doesnt make sense. She was offered goods but wanted a refund so, instead of taking the goods she was offered, she forcefully took other goods.

I'm quite consistent on this kind of thing. If you go around looking for a fight eventually you will find one. Go around throwing hands you'll find someone who gonna throw some back.

As security for his shop he has the right to defend his store. I see nothing wrong with his actions
