Default Poor Ratings for First Survivor Programme

Survivor beaten by the news in TV ratings

The opening edition of the new series of Survivor attracted just 4.2 million viewers on ITV.

It was beaten by BBC1's Ten O'Clock News, which had an audience of 4.6 million, according to unofficial figures.

Viewers saw city trader Sarah McCombie become the first of the 12 contestants to be voted off the show.

The first series of Survivor was a ratings flop when it went head to head with Channel 4's Big Brother last year.

The opening show of the first series drew 6.6 million viewers.

The series failed to achieve the 10 million ITV had hoped for.

Oh dear - not a very promising start.

I did watch the first programme and though it was OK, but I'm afraid it did nothing to encourage me to tune in next week to see what happened to any of the contestants. The only one I quite liked was one of the Scottish chaps (a coincidence, honestly!) - I think his name's Alistair.

... and maybe it's just me, but I can't stand that horrible war cry sound they play before and after the advert breaks - it puts my teeth on edge!

I agree Kaz, that Alistair is a strapping lad! Very nice indeed!

Now the tribal council, idols and the old eebie jeebies, what's all that about???

Twoddle!

On a more serious note, tonight, a one off, The Trench. I think that will be fascinating.

My grandfather was in the trenches for years, and would still break down and cry like a baby about it at the end of his long life.

He mourned throughout his life for his lost friends, and had nightmares about the conditions in which they lived and died together, whilst still only in their teens and twenties.

Perhaps a sobering bit of reality for all of us?

True ROB, we can never imagine what it was like, my OH's grandfather lost his leg in the trenches and live to an old age with a wooden one. He never talked about what he must have seen and gone thru.
Maybe if we had women in charge, the world might be at peace, who wants to see their menfolk go to war

Hah without doubt the U.S. is the best version out there, 18 seasons (and signed until 20 so far) have proven that. I love Survivor: Borneo, Africa, Pearl Islands, Exile Island, and Gabon the most.
