i think things like mourning should be a personal choice, not an authoritarian directive. Forced cancellation of events affecting millions is authoritarian and unacceptable outside of an emergency situation

But so is expecting people to play a game instead of mourning which they may want to do

Millions will be showing respect more than a few minutes silence or does 70 years only deserve a few minutes then back to the football

Censorship is probably the wrong word to use (but it is pretty damn close) but we are having loads of stuff (not just Football like The Sheriff seems to think it's about) that are reportedly gonna be taken off over the next few days.

Which pretty much forces non-Masked Dancer fans into one direction when they're watching TV around that time.

I know that I'm expressing my point in a harsh manner, but hopefully people can at least understand my point.

what about fans that have paid for hotels and travel to attend matches this weekend. Are they expected to swallow that loss in times of extreme hardship?

If I'm understanding your point correctly then I agree.

People should be using these events to celebrate the Queen, and getting the community together, but instead they're shutting everything down.

That imo (excuse the pun) is an own goal.

You're just thinking about it from a Football perspective.

Say you're the writer of EastEnders, you'd probably do a couple of episodes celebrating the Queen's achievements over the years, and maybe even getting any of the Royal Family members to make a guest appearance if they're okay with doing that.

Other events will have to do other ideas, but that's just one example that I personally think is a lot better than the option that's been taken instead.

I saw a West Ham who is travelling 3000 miles from somewhere in Europe for our game on Sunday, flights and hotels all paid for

If Charles has any sense he will let events go ahead as a celebration of her long life rather then mourning the death of an elderly lady who did her duty to the end, she can’t have felt great on Tuesday but she carried on anyway

i agree with Mock for a bit

this weekend yes maybe nice to postpone for the first 7 days of mourning, but we also need to do it like how she lived, always carrying on with her work no matter what until the end

7 days of mourning, and then next 2 weeks after lots of tributes to the UK and Commonwealth's favourite mother

i also hope Charles will continue with the christmas speech tradition, if he's smart he'll do that, considering that was also something what made the queen be very loved by the public

Are the words from the Palace relevant, we are entering into a period of Royal mourning rather than national mourning

not a footballer, but i reckon Man United would want to not play this weekend, especially legends within their club would them not to, such as Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex Ferguson

i reckon most england team players then and now would want this weekends matchround to be postponed

99.9% of them.

Oh piss off with that only thinking about yourself nonsense. If they cancel the football they cancel it, it wont affect me, in place of the 2 or 3 games i usually watch at the weekend i'll just watch a film. I however feel bad for all those who paid good, well earned money to travel and watch their teams play. The country and rich sticking it to the poor as per.

This forced mourning narrative is really weird. If you want to mourn, have at it and knock yourselves out, but that's where it should end. Stop trying to force grief onto others.
