[The Labour faithful return to Liverpool between Sunday 25 and Wednesday 28 September for four days of debating, speeches and singing anthems. The three waterfront venues for the party conference are the ACC Liverpool arena, Exhibition Centre Liverpool (ECL) and the Pullman hotel. The big issues The cost of living crisis – and the party’s call for a reinforced windfall tax to raise money to freeze energy bills – is likely to be central to the conference. Strikes, including by rail workers in October, are expected to feature heavily. However, there is likely to be friction over Keir Starmer’s ban on frontbenchers joining picket lines, which cost the Ilford South MP, Sam Tarry, his shadow transport minister post in July.] https://www.theguardian.com/politics...o-look-out-for Yes Strikes a good debate on them is Needed. https://news.sky.com/story/what-to-e...rpool-12702471 |

I'd like to see a good old fashioned conference I've heard about like decades ago.
Apparently Labour conferences were far less stage managed then than is the case now. Obviously I support Labour and I am aware a growing number of voters are likely to vote Labour to get this despicable shower of a government OUT. How I'd love to see a good thrashing out of policies which will strike a stronger chord with the disillusioned and voters who feel politically homeless. Labour still has at its heart, the belief of justice, fairness and compassion. That needs to be hammered home and reflected in policies too. To read that a thoughtful member in Gusto feels he can maybe vote Labour after near 2 decades would indicate we've started to get some things more right however that vote needs to be earned and respected. There is no doubt chaos is likely to continue at the next election. However while I accept that covid and Ukraine have been factors, what this lot haven't done is prepare properly and competently for whatever was to hit. Hence the chaotic shambles. Labour needs to get down to looking for some foresight and not to accept hindsight. Because hindsight comes often after really disastrous outcomes of badly planned policy making. As is the case with the current government. So a conference where arguments aren't actually real divisions but just passionate beliefs in an alternative policy. I hope Starmer finds a more passionate delivery in his speech as to what he'd want Labour to achieve in government. I've come to think Liz Gross wouldn't want an election until the new boundary changes come in from July 2023. So likely Autumn next year or Spring 2024. However with the changes announced yesterday to come in from April next year, it wouldn't now surprise me if she was looking at perhaps May 2023. So Labour needs to get to be and really be ready. To win the votes of voters and respect those votes. So hoping for a good conference however knowing with no doubt the media will be highlighting every single tiny dispute and criticisms rather than anything positive. Please though not a kind of fully stage managed conference is what I really am hoping for this year. Last edited by joeysteele; 24-09-2022 at 08:09 AM. |

labour wont get in power until 2024 at the earliest. That means they have 6 years to achieve net zero. It's not realistic, not a chance in hell. The entire population removing their gas boilers and dumping their current cars for electric ones in 6 years?
If you re going to make a pledge, at least make it realistic |

For me, Keir Starmer was always a figure of fun. But after the Tories most evil budget, Labour cannot be any worse. It simply cannot be.

I liked the lady who stood up to speak just so she could humblebrag about how wonderful she is.
She regaled the audience with tales about how she's a judge, a governor, and is going to be head sheriff... She majestically drank in the applause... Then she hastily added that she supports the motions being discussed... Then she disappeared up her own arse Last edited by Oliver_W; 25-09-2022 at 11:51 AM. |

Your man Wes Streeting (i know you love him really Slim) is gaining popularity. He was saying that Trusting the Tories to sort out the NHS now is beyond ridiculous, which is very true.
