Default GPs in England want to Close Surgery at 5PM

That's not nice,
Some finish work, need a late afternoon appointment

It's frankly useless for them to be open anything less than 8am - 6pm, since often people need to drop off samples before starting work (so pre-9am) and pick up prescriptions after work (post-5pm).

THat said, if they do need to cut hours, they could easily cut clinical hours at either end of the day and just keep reception open for drop off/pick up, with one or two reception staff.

To be honest I do think if people need an actual appointment then they should be able to take the time off for it unpenalised, and employers should allow that (even just a few hours or a half day).

Not enough GPs

They need 6,000 more.

This is so the Doctors do not burn out.

I suppose there are only so many times a day you can type something into google and then say "take these twice a day" ...

Our surgery opens on a Saturday morning.
That helps with those that are working through the week.
My problem is the beggars won’t stay away from here! Ruddy doctor called this morning to give me my flu and covid jabs.
Moaned that I was taking time getting out of bed and he had 10 more patients to see.
well as I told him, I wasn’t expecting company, plus I had my jabs last Friday.

Tbh…at my surgery not many get seen after 5pm anyway. Between 5-7 they do telephone appointments and catch up on paperwork and prescriptions.
