Somewhat alarmingly, there has NEVER been any actual research data showing that gender-affirming care is or ever was best-practice for kids and teenagers. It's never been an evidence-based practice.

What makes that especially barmy is that it means detransitioners, in adulthood, would have very real grounds to sue the health practitioners who dealt with them as children. People try to sue when things "go wrong" medically all the time - generally what protects staff is that they've followed the research and the evidence of best-practice that was available at the time of treatment. If they did that, it's usually not possible to sue.

But the evidence for this having generally good outcomes has never existed, other than as a weird form of folklore. People believe it and will adamantly attest to it being the truth ... but only because they heard someone else insisting it first.
