But when you've paid extortionate tax for years and then the script gets flipped I understand why the french are angry.
The French and UK really aren't comparable on this topic.
French wages are so low and taxes are so high, but they have so many social benefits compared to the UK.
Literally in France if you lose your job the state pays you your previous wage up to 2.5k euros per month for up to 2 years whilst you look for other work.
The French are scared all these things are being taken away from them and they are still left with ****ty wages and high taxes.
That is why they fight.

I think the French are great, they protest for their rights, here in the UK we are far too passive. I turn 50 this year and I can access a pension as I was in it before they made the reforms that allowed you to access your private pension at 55, now they are thinking this is a bad idea as alot of people are retiring early so from 2028 that will rise to 57 ...and it will continue to rise

Thugs hijacking the protest, damaging property and putting people out of work is not what most protesters want to do

French President Emmanuel Macron has been criticised after he removed a luxury watch during an interview about pension changes.

France is gripped by protests and strikes over Mr Macron's decision to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.

Mr Macron's representatives said the president took off the watch because it was "clinking on the table".

But his critics have claimed the watch shows he is out of touch with the public.

Some wrongly claimed it was worth up to €80,000 ($86,000; £70,000), but the Élysée Palace said this was not correct.

The incident happened part way through an interview on Wednesday, when Mr Macron was justifying his reasons for lifting the pension age.

As he rested his forearms on the table, a thud could be heard.

The president then placed his hands under the table as he continued talking. When he brought them back up, the watch had been removed.

His team insisted the removal was entirely innocent. But the missing timepiece quickly drew his critics' attention.

Little is said about our own UK retirement age.

It was raised to 66 a few years ago, and in 2028 it will be raised again to 67.

Why raised twice in such a short space of time?

In France
it's not like the UK.

They now have a young underclass
who go along and smash Windows
and start fires.
