Questioning Humza Yousaf’s competence is ‘racist’, says SNP MSP

People who question the competence of Scotland’s new First Minister by
calling him “useless” are racists, an SNP MSP has claimed.

Karen Adam, who loudly backed Humza Yousaf’s successful bid to succeed
Nicola Sturgeon, said that he was already being targeted with “racist tropes”
that were “utterly disgusting”.

However, in her column in the pro-independence newspaper The National, MZ
Adam claimed that the new First Minister had been unfairly criticised since
he announced his leadership bid because of the colour of his skin.

Ms Adam went on to call on “white allies” to “call out” the attacks on Mr
Yousaf, claiming she feared the “misogyny Nicola endured” had “now flipped
to racism towards Humza”.

Opponents insisted that attacks on Mr Yousaf, who was born in Glasgow to
immigrants from Pakistan and Kenya, were based on his performance in
government roles. (YA THINK?)

SNP voters 'duped' into backing Humza Yousaf

First Minister election would have ended differently if people had known Peter
Murrell's arrest was imminent, argue Kate Forbes' backers

I bet that sentence handed down to the rapist was planned as a distraction from this.

Cool

The arrest comes just weeks before Sir Iain Livingstone, the chief constable of
Police Scotland, is set to retire. Livingstone announced his decision to retire
just eight days after Ms Sturgeon’s resignation

today, as Police are still

He has been released, no charge yet.

Cool

From DT comments on the timing of all of this:

"Anyone who does not realise that the whole process has been carefully
coordinated between the Murrells and Police Scotland, must have had their eyes
closed and their fingers in their ears - and I think Yousaf may be one of those
people! The "missing" £600k has been being investigated for the best part of
two years - arrests of senior SNP officials have been on the cards for months -
then it all happens immediately after the surprise resignations of the party
leader, the Chief Exec and the Chief Constable, but giving just enough time for
the Murrells' best pal Yousef to be appointed the new leader. Too many
coincidences"

The firm that audits the SNP's finances has resigned, the BBC has learned.

Accountants Johnston Carmichael, which has worked with the party for more than a decade, said the decision was taken after a review of its client portfolio.

By law, the party has until 7 July to present their accounts to the Electoral Commission or face possible sanctions.

It comes after police investigating the party's finances searched the home of former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell - Nicola Sturgeon's husband.

He was arrested on Wednesday and later released without charge.

A spokesperson for the SNP said they were in the process of finding a replacement firm.

Default Letter to the DT

SIR – It is worth casting one’s mind back to April 2021, during the pandemic,
when Nicola Sturgeon, as first minister of Scotland, said: “I do think there is a
need for real, proper investigation and real and proper scrutiny around the
swirling of allegations around [Boris] Johnson and the Tory party … It is
genuinely a real stench of sleaze and it is in the public interest that these things
are properly addressed and properly answered.”

Just two years later, these words are more applicable to the SNP (report, April
6).
