Tbf I haven't seen a single episode of Secret Invasion so I can't speak for it's quality myself However I do know that it's had a mixed reception, and imo this Director doesn't fill me with confidence on the Show's quality if I have to "lower my expectations" to get anything out of it. Don't get me wrong as I'm getting older I'm trying to learn to appreciate different styles of writing (obviously I can't take to every style) but I do believe that people should be more open minded to different styles, if the Director had of said what I'm saying on this thread, then I obviously would've agreed with them. However regardless of genre and style, a product (especially a Marvel product) that also has Samuel L. Jackson and Emilia Clarke in the programme should be of a very high quality for the Superhero Genre, people shouldn't have to "lower" expectations when you've got them two performers in your cast, it makes me think that the product hasn't reached it's full potential. And besides I am fed up of excuses from these people from Hollywood, if people are taking issue with your product, just accept it and either try to address the issue, or stick to your vision if you're 100% convinced that you're on the right path with the story. What do you guys think?

The expectation is that the quality of the shows will be as high as the quality of the movies, but that's not a realistic expectation... tbh it's not a fault of the fans, it's a fault of Disney being greedy and trying to get too much out of the MCU.
I think Secret Invasion was fine, but it was over-stuffed and the production values weren't movie quality. Really, it should have been a movie (there's loads that could be cut to make a 2.5 hour film) and could have featured one or two of the other "Marvel big names" - i.e. it should have at least have had Captain Marvel at some point, the other best fit would have been Hawkeye (who worked extensively with Fury, he would DEFINITELY have gotten involved) but that may not have been possible... not sure if they filmed this before or after he ran himself over ![]() The MCU Disney+ shows that have worked best are WandaVision (which they pretty much wrecked with Doc Strange 2) and Loki. Hawkeye show was OK but was carried by decent performances really. |

Fair points guys.
I'm glad that all three of you have enjoyed the Show, tbh I haven't watched it, I was just amazed at how the Director defended his Show in such an awful way was all. ![]() And to talk about WandaVision I really didn't like that Show, I respect that it went for something more ambitious (which puts it above the pits programming for me) but I just really couldn't click with the Sitcom references in a Superhero work, it again felt like Marvel was a shamed to air a more authentic Superhero series (like back in the day with Agents Of Shield) and just decided to come out with a Comedy instead. As I've said already the experimental idea of turning a Marvel Show into a Comedy-Drama puts it ahead of things like FBI: International and The Mandalorian for me (because my god to them two Shows) but just not overall my thing. I think the three that I've got to check out eventually are Loki, Moon Knight, and Hawkeye as they look like I might have a chance with them, but you never know with Hollywood these days. ![]()

Quantumania is a fun enough film, people just had very high expectations of it because it was (properly) introducing Kang ("the next Thanos") to the MCU but in the end it wasn't a "big" movie like an Avengers film, Civil War, etc ... it was just a decent Ant-man film.

Either way it certainly weren't what I was looking for in a Marvel Show.

Because from what I notice online anyway, is that people will pull up Marvel Movies no matter what tone or style they're going for, which to me is signaling audience fatigue.

Could be "Marvel Fatigue" in specific or "Superhero Fatigue" in general, or maybe people feel the MCU has been closed with Endgame?

And any genuine quality issues on top is just exasperating the problem. MCU imo should consider taking a break for a few years and have people hungry for the return.

I think the tipping point was when they went back in time in Endgame to fix what had happened in the previous film.
Introducing time-travel and multiple universes means there's no stakes to anything you see. They can bring back any dead character or unwind any event. Also calling your film 'End' game - it's like calling an Indiana Jones film Last Crusade and then making more films later. |

The momentum was also impacted by COVID post-endgame of course, which can't be taken out of the equation. Giving it some thought... they might have been best to focus purely on the new aquisitions (X-men, Fantastic Four, etc. + Spider-man, SOny isn't going to stop making Spidey films any time soon), build those up, then reintroduce some of the "old guard" for the next Avengers. The hard part I suppose is keeping the actors interested in reprising the roles. |

i think back to when i got the comics, i didn't give a crap if it all made sense or not. I was just interested in the next issue and I think the films reflect that. It's a bit of escapism for an hour or 2, i will never take any of it too seriously
