Saudi Arabia and UAE Join Global AI
Arms Race by Purchasing Nvidia Chips https://fagenwasanni.com/news/saudi-...-chips/199985/ [Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are aggressively buying thousands of Nvidia chips, essential for developing artificial intelligence (AI) software. Both countries aim to become leaders in AI as they seek to boost their economies. Saudi Arabia has purchased at least 3,000 of Nvidia’s H100 chips, while the UAE has secured access to thousands of these chips and has already developed its own open-source large language model called Falcon. These Gulf states’ huge purchases of Nvidia chips have contributed to a global supply shortage, as tech companies worldwide rush to obtain chips for AI development. Last week, it was reported that leading Chinese tech companies are also seeking to buy up Nvidia’s high-performance chips. According to sources, Nvidia will ship approximately 550,000 of its latest H100 chips globally in 2023, primarily to American tech companies. The chips purchased by Saudi Arabia and the UAE are part of their efforts to develop their own AI capabilities and reduce dependence on other countries like China and the US. ![]() |
