It's starting to bug me TBH, had to shell out over £200 to replace tyre pressure sensors and parking sensors pre-MOT this year because apparently they could have been a fail...

Previous car didn't even HAVE tyre pressure or parking sensors! So why do they need to be working on this one? .

To be fair mine does still beep when you reverse park - it's just that it now does one loud beep and a little box with a message in it appears that says, "rear parking sensor malfunction". And yet we've still managed not to crash into any walls, it's a miracle.

The increase in computerization also favors the dealership when it comes to repairs. Our mechanic says it is very expensive to buy equipment to do what used to be simple jobs or even just to diagnose. So much so it makes it hard to justify offering at all or even stepping back in that business.

In terms of electronics it's pot luck if your local mechanic can even deal with it - sometimes they'll just tell you to go to the brand dealership (who charge way more than any other independent mechanic) or you can go to a specialist. When we had a wiring issue we managed to find a guy who will come and do the work in your driveway (where possible) so that was a bonus but it is often pricier than a bog standard mechanical repair.

The other thing is that you have to get a full service every year these days, because if you don't alarms come on that your car hasn't been serviced, and you need a manufacturers gadget to reset it,

It's all a scam

Well yes but you can get dodgy ones off TikTok shop for a lot of cars . The code readers themselves are legitimately quite handy to be fair.
