Default Do you fancy someone less, if they wear Glasses?

How many of us know that horrible comment:-

FOUR-EYES

Somebody who wears Glasses, because their eyesight is sadly not good enough.

But many people find it a put-off and that is a shame, but it does get said and many who do wear Glasses do have this going through their mind.

It can't be helped and if you do see a nice girl or guy and they seem nice, then just because they wear Glasses, they shouldn't be discriminated against, but they are by many.

It is like a taboo to some.

I remember years ago, when some mate of mine said:-

"Cute face, but shame about the four-eyes!"

That was horrible

1) How do you deal with people who do call you or your friends/family "Four-Eyes?"

2) Do you hate wearing Glasses because of the way some people think?

3) Is Contact-Lenses the only way really?

4) Do you feel less than someone who doesn't have to wear Glasses?

5) Are Girls & Guys who wear Glasses a turn off or a turn on?

Doesn't really bother me.

2) Do you hate wearing Glasses because of the way some people think?

I couldn't care less.

3) Is Contact-Lenses the only way really?

I only use specs to read so it isn't really an issue.

4) Do you feel less than someone who doesn't have to wear Glasses?

Used to about three years ago.

5) Are Girls & Guys who wear Glasses a turn off or a turn on?

It doesn't matter.

I don't wear glasses but both my parents do and so does my best friend... no-one ever really says anything about it. I know of no-one bullied about it.

I don't like the idea of contact lenses cos it can cause eye irritation and stuff, and I don't see the big deal of glasses. They don't make anyone look less or more attractive in my opinion - can be a turn on.

I don't wear Glasses either and I am glad that I don't have to.

I personally do prefer a girl who doesn't wear Glasses. But I don't discriminate against it and wouldn't judge someone differently because of it.

But, when you see five girls, all attractive, the one wearing glasses may be looked upon as being less, in some way.

It is a kind of barrier and I have known girls & guys who wished that they didn't have to wear them and find it problematic.

When I was very young, I had a squint in my Right EYE, and my parents took me to have an operation on my eye, to repair it and since that it is okay.

But, a friend of mine, who is the same age as me, had the same problem of having a Squint and his parents didn't want to risk the operation and because of that, he had to wear Glasses for the rest of his life.

He really wishes today, that his parents had agreed at that time, but now it is too late.

For him, it is a barrier...

I wear glasses to read an this started when I was 14. And the first time I pulled them out was in Welsh class and we were reading this book and I wasn't expecting the uproar it caused. People were shocked and were staring at me for ages. Thanfully I only have to wear them to read because people staring at me made me feel so uncomfortable and that was just in class. I hate to imagine what it would be like wearing them full time.

Thankfully I never got called 4 eyes and it's never really caused an issue. It was just the staring at first which was unbarable.

I know that it is considered a taboo and people do judge people differently due to wearing Glasses.

In School, some other pupils will always look for something to use, to cause some kind of ribbing/bullying

Glasses is definately one of them and I remember that.

But when you are older and many people don't use that Four-Eyes word anymore, they may still have that phobia in their minds.

I only wear glasses if I need to see far away. It really doesn't bother me, seeing as glasses aren't what makes someone.

Somebody also fogot another option, laser surgery.

1) I'm short sighted so I have to wear glasses to see farly.. they're ok though and they're metallic pink! I got called four-eyes in school so stopped wearing them for a bit, which caused huge problems with my school work, because I was unable to see the board because the writing was all blury.
2) I used to hate it, but now I'm not bothered.
3) I wouldn't need contact lenses anyway. And I wouldn't fancy sticking them into my eyes.
4) Not really.
5) Hmm not sure. But I have to say that my sister thinks that Harry Potter looks better with the glasses!

I saw that episode of "Nevermind the Buzzcocks", with "Lily Allen" wearing her glasses, but those particular glasses she wore, did her no justice

Remember "Claire Peacock" in Coronation Street and her choice of Glasses.

There was quite a bit of complaining to the show, about her particular choice of Glasses.

It can be offputting....

I started wearing contact lenses about a year ago, maybe? I've definitely become a lot more confident, not because people ever insulted me for wearing glasses, but it helped me, personally. I wouldn't say contact lenses are the only solution, you shouldn't be scared to wear glasses in public, I still wear mine occasionally when I go out, it sometimes even gets people saying how much they like your glasses (I find!) if you don't wear them out in public very often. I guess I'm lucky, though!

Because people get bullied over it a lot, it's a very real and dangerous issue - so it should be brought up, and this thread has a point.

There's severals studies pointing to the correlation between wearing glasses and an increase in bullying (increased chance of bullying by 35%!). Also, it has been a proven factor in depression too.
