Default PRESS RELEASE: BB Africa swap

BIG BROTHER CONFIRMS HOUSEMATE SWAP BETWEEN UK AND AFRICA:
CAMERON IS GOING TO THE AFRICAN BIG BROTHER HOUSE

Big Brother UK and Big Brother Africa can now confirm that they are to swap a housemate from each house as part of an exciting individual challenge. Cameron from the UK will now spend a few days in the African Big Brother house while a housemate from Africa will stay in the Hertfordshire house here. Both housemates will enter their new homes on Monday 23 June.

This morning at 09.12am, Big Brother announced to the house that the weekly task would not be set until Monday. Big Brother revealed that, instead, one housemate would be given an individual challenge today. Big Brother explained that one housemate would be called to the diary room about it within the hour.

At 9.59am, Big Brother asked for a housemate to come to the diary room. Cameron responded and Big Brother then offered him the unique opportunity to act as an Ambassador for the British Big Brother series and to deliver a message to the African Big Brother house. This challenge was optional but a surprised Cameron soon accepted, saying, “I’m totally excited, flipping heck, I’m shaking!”

Cameron will travel to the Big Brother Africa house, which is based in South Africa. This house will be his home for several days. The African version of Big Brother is broadcast across the continent and the house is occupied by twelve housemates, all from different African countries. Cameron will be living with female housemates Abergail from South Africa; Bruna from Angola; Cherise from Zambia; Tapuwa from Zimbabwe and Warona from Botswana; and male housemates Alexander from Kenya; Bayo from Nigeria; Gaetano from Uganda; Mwisho from Tanzania; Samuel from Ghana; Stefan from Namibia and Zein from Malawi. He will, of course, not meet one of them, as they will be residing in the British Big Brother house at the same time.

The Big Brother Africa house is based in Randburg, South Africa. Big Brother Africa began on Sunday 25 May (two days after Big Brother Series 4 began in the UK) and runs for 106 days.

At this stage, the remaining housemates from both Big Brother compounds are unaware that a housemate from abroad will be coming to live with them. They have also not been told of the whereabouts of their fellow contestant. With only a short time to pack his belongings, Cameron will leave the house at approximately 11.15am today.

Both housemates will be entering their new temporary homes on Monday 23 June.
In exchange for living in another Big Brother house, Cameron will be given a two-week amnesty from being nominated. However, Cameron will still be able to cast his own nominations in the UK Big Brother house via proxy. Both housemates involved in the swap will be allowed to tell their new friends about life in another Big Brother house. The swapped housemates will have to abide by the Big Brother rules of their hosts.

A special documentary telling the full story behind the swap will be broadcast on Channel 4 on Saturday 28 June at 9.30pm. Channel 4 viewers will also be able to see the British housemates’ reaction to their new African housemate every night at 10.00pm. Viewers will be able to follow Cameron’s progress in Africa by watching special editions of the African Big Brother show on E4 from Tuesday to Friday at 9.30pm. Big Brother’s Little Brother will also feature all the latest news from the African Big Brother house, every weekday teatime on Channel 4.

Viewers will be able to watch the African housemate enter the UK house live on E4 on Monday morning. Channel 4 viewers will be able to see this moment on Big Brother’s Little Brother on Monday at 6pm. Channel 4’s 10pm show on Monday 23 June will feature Cameron being offered the chance to swap.

Both housemates will be allowed to return to their original Big Brother home and will be permitted to tell the housemates back home about their adventure. They will still be eligible to become the winner of Big Brother and receive the prize money.

How will Cameron, from the Orkney Islands, cope with the challenge of living over five thousand miles away from home in a different continent with a group of strangers from a different culture? Is this Big Brother’s toughest challenge yet?

The identity of the African housemate who will visit the UK house will be announced later today.

Well it is a bit more interesting then passing a parcel around the table.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the two evictions and will there be an eviction this week ?

This should make for good TV but in the Big Brother game it means there is now a lot of favouritism to one housemate - in this case Cameron.

He's going to be the centre of attention on his own TV show on E4 and he'll go over there and be a total fish out of water, so he'll get a sympathy vote back home. He's hardly likely to cause any trouble in the new house. As well as the fact that he avoids nomination, but can still nominate!

I think we can almost declare Cameron as the winner of Big Brother already.

By the way it still doesn't explain how they are going to make up the numbers from the double-eviction. Expect to see another new housemate.

Well the Sun got it right but had to spoil it by telling us, can't decide yet though if it's a good idea. Don't know if Cameron going was to do with winning last nights task or was it just the first person who was first into the diary room this morning, who probably though were going for batteries. Glad Nush is still there though. I would have been otherwise.

Well...

I think if we look at the bigger picture, the plan in BBA is that the second person evicted comes to the UK BB house. I have a very strong feeling that the same ploy was going to be acted out here, i.e. they were going to send Jon off to South Africa.

The double eviction would have been used to the same effect as BBA, surely? If this is true, then what's the chances that Jon said "No" to the producers? Or they had a change of heart at the last moment, following the results of his interviews?

I thought Cameron was going for the whole of the rest of the time!! I am so pleased that he is only going for a week.

This will make the UK nominations even harder though.

The UK flights out to Zim and SA are usually overnight, so presumably he will be going to a "safe house" before he gets to the airport later. Can you imagine the hassle of him not being allowed to see anything about the UK BB, e.g. newspapers at the airport??? Also on the plane he will probably be in Business Class so he doesn't get the chance to talk to other people!!

Wow!!!

I suspect it'll be a private/chatered flight. They wouldn't even dare risk placing him on a public flight, too risky, way too risky.

Just imagine it? even if he was in Business Class, someone would think "It's him!". Whenever I'm in BC, someone's always nattered to me even when all I've wanted to do is gag them

Another cynical thought from me. Someone who works for the show could tell Cameron some inside information during the journey about how he is being portrayed on the outside.

Even when they are in the diary room the chats are vetted by a number of people.

lol @

From channel4.com/bigbrother

As for the African housemates, they might well struggle with the fish trader's distinctive accent and Cameron won't be prepared for the animosity being directed towards Tapuwa. Sammi from Ghana and Alex have shockingly threatened her with death, due to the serious issue of room space.

===

Well... Cameron'll soooooooo fit in, nothing like a death threat over bedroom space... why does that remind me of School Camp?

I think this is classic BB. It keeps the interest in the show anyway, I'm intrigued as to how Cameron will get on in the SA house.

It was funny on E4 coverage earlier I saw the lads in the house talking to Cameron through the wall thinking that he is in the reward room for 24 hours and not allowed to talk to them. It's a laugh when we know otherwise They have even saved his Iron Bru for him

From e4i

Cameron Sets Off On His New Adventure

Cameron boarded a specially-modified private jet to take him off to his new temporary home - the Big Brother house in South Africa.

Big Brother producers accompanied him to ensure he had no contact with the outside world.

Before he left the house, Cameron was asked to wait in the Reward Room, which was decorated as an airport lounge. He called Big Brother from there and said: "I'm not a pessimist at all, but all I was going to say was if anything happens to me on this trip, please tell me Mum, Dad and brother that I love them very much and I've had a magic time at Big Brother and that I wouldn't change it for the world."

Back in the house, all the other housemates were unaware of Cameron's whereabouts, thinking he was still in the Reward Room underaking the individual challenge.

BB caught us all napping again. Though I wish they had sent Tania she is beginning to annoy me. Good job Cameron is only going for a week and I like the fact that he is having an amnesty against eviction - go Cameron have a great time.

Ok.Ok it's an expensive gimmick to get people talking. And that's just about it. Can't yet see what actual purpose it serves. Perhaps someone could enlighten me on that.

I would have much prefered a surprise return of Anouska to the house along with a new addition to make up the numbers again.

Steph's looking a bit worried though, I think's she's got a soft spot for the Bible Basher. It will be interesting to see how he fit's in that South African house, most of em look like nutters in that there. Likewise we could have one over here. It will be different, I suppose, but I do feel sorry for Steph, looking all worried.
