Default A new pub in London is opening where you pay based on your net worth…

Sick of getting a round in for all your mates that have houses, cars and salaries so eye-watering that you’d really rather not know how much they earn? Boy, do we have the pub for you!
Oxfam are opening the first and openly pub this month that charges punters based on their net worth.

The Fair Pour, which will be based in Holborn, is opening its doors for one day and one day only, offering patrons the chance to pay what they feel based on how much they earn.
Fortunately for those doing Dry January, it’s a non-alcoholic pub, serving a range of booze-free pints, wines and mocktails. Unfortunately for those not doing Dry January, it’s a non-alcoholic pub, serving a range of booze-free pints, wines and mocktails.

Located on 64 Theobalds Rd, London WC1X 8SF, The Fair Pour will be open on 21 January from 12pm to 9pm, with a pub quiz running from 7pm to 8pm and no booking required.
Oxfam are opening The Fair Pour in an aim to highlight growing wealth inequality in the world, as income inequalities within countries continues to grow.
It’s timed to coincide with the Davos World Economic Forum, where world leaders gather at a mountain resort in Switzerland to discuss issues such as climate change, inequality, and technology.
The aptly-named mocktails include the “Old Money Fashioned” and “The Billionaire’s Breeze”.

This comes two months on from O’Neills in Soho made headlines by introducing “dynamic pricing” in peak times. This means that punters enjoying a drink in the the establishment after 10pm will have to pay £2 more for the pleasure.
Kelly Mundy, Senior Campaigns Manager, at Oxfam said: "Wealth inequality is the shocking reality of our society, and a reality that’s worsening every year. It's time for bold solutions like progressive taxation and investment in public services to create a more equal playing field.
“The Fair Pour pub highlights the urgent need for action to create a fairer world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We hope it encourages people to think about how a fairer tax system could create a more just society for everyone.”

it's not about how much you earn, it's about how much disposable income you have, so the whole thing is nonesense

Remember when you used to be able to go into a pub, buy a drink , relax and talk about whatever you liked?

Like it wasn't already clear that the pub is being slowly murdered... then some idiot comes up with yet another ridiculous gimmick.

True I suppose for maybe 80% of the population. Obviously the top %ages are likely to have fairly decent "spending money" (there's very little reason that they wouldn't, at least in terms of the ability to go out for a pint) and the very bottom percentages are likely to have little to none if it's a household income. Obviously there are other factors, e.g. a 19 year old on very low income but who still lives at home rent/bills free is going to have pretty much entirely disposable income.

But yes I agree in principle in the middle; a household earning £70k doesn't necessarily have more "spare cash" than one on £40k. Depends entirely on living sitch.
