What does detain mean, and what does child mean - is it going to include the very dubious "teenagers" with beards and comb-overs, the ones who graced the front pages of various tabloids?

Actual children don't deserve to be punished, I'd rather see unaccompanied children be put into caring foster homes, than be punished for being treated like contraband.

It's not possible to seek asylum in the UK from people traveling from France. They are all illegal.

Does anyone have any idea how broken Children's Services is? And now it's going to have further pressure as people weep and cry about the plight of kids who are here illegally? I don't believe they should be ill-treated, but I also don't believe they should be given an advantage over our own kids in care. Like the adult illegals are given priority over our own homeless.
