Jewish union seeks sanctions on Israel

The fifth annual convention of the Federation of the European Jews for Just Peace is underway in Berlin.

The event which started on July 1 concludes on Tuesday.

In a detailed resolution titled 'Before it is too late', the union declared solidarity with the Palestinian nation in its resistance, and denounced all types of invasion, abduction, murder, torture and imprisonment practiced by Israel, calling on the international community to impose sanctions against the Zionist regime.

This is not the first time the French section of the International Jewish Union for Peace has called for sanctions against Israel.

Around the same time last year, Israel was involved in pre-planned and large-scale aggression against Lebanon with US support which according to some reliable reports was conducted under a joint military command.

During the war years in Lebanon, this accredited French formation has continually urged the world to levy sanctions on Israel until all occupied Arab territories are freed.

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel campaign (BDS) has gained momentum recently.

The Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU) called for sanctions against Israeli products. The union is not alone in demanding sanctions against Israel. One of UK's biggest trade unions, UNISON, with over one million members, also calls for the same.

While the American, British and European governments continue to support Israel, there is some hope of seeing trade unions, churches and others express their dissatisfaction and opposition to Israel, a director of the Israeli Profil Hadash, a movement against the militarization of Israel, explained.

The French section of the International Jewish Union for Peace is a founding member of the EJJP. This union is aiming for sanctions on food and IT, and medicine products.

South African Trade Unions Congress also called on the international community to break diplomatic relations with Israel, and implement sanctions against the entity. They maintain that this proposal is a solution not an attempt at allegedly 'starving the Israeli people'.

Many devoted Israelis support this innovative move. They realize the Zionist regime will not stop until it is internationally punished.
