Starts by thanking the fans

He’s tired and trying to adjust from bb time

“There’s been a very hot topic, I just think get a grip let people live” says he’s done a full day of press tour on jojo and chris when he thought it was going to be all about him (in a joking way)

His cohost says they’re not going to speak about them “**** em this is your podcast it’s all about you”. Danny “don’t get me wrong i love them i wish them all the best. i’ve just been texting jojo 5 minutes ago” says he’s being genuine not shady.

Hardest day lowest moment was waking up for the pirate task when they took all the food and they only had porridge. He was happy to go to jail because he could sleep for 2 hours.

He said the A list celebrity thing went out the window they were all equal as people in the house

Said he stepped in between chris and mickey because he had built a relationship with mickey atp but he did freak out a little as mickey got more and more aggressive. Danny doesn’t agree with everything mickey said or did but he was a man that needed tlc and he opened up about a lot but he won’t share because he doesn’t know what has and hasn’t been shown. Danny cared for him and people in the house called it “pussyfooting”

Donna was his main support in there. He was his light and vice versa. Danny didn’t like the drama. After the Daley bomb danny said to donna that chris was freaking out and he wanted to go and tell him straight away. He didn’t want to be in a group in the garden bitching about someone.

He wanted to win, they all wanted to win and anyone who said they didn’t care about winning was lying.

Cohost tells Danny that he made the show and made it what it was. Danny’s watched two episodes. Thinks the season was a success partially because they all threw themselves into the tasks completely. They went extra hard in the family task because they had had failed the last task.

Wanted sesame oil to make his fried rice for everyone. He was surprised how hard the nominations were. They were 8 hours doing the first nominations. They all really did like each other. It was hard to not take jojo’s nomination personal but it wasn’t personal “i told her i don’t hate the player, hate the game.” It was great tv but to live it wasn’t pleasant.

Said there was genuinely an amazing group of people in there. Ella is such a sweet sensitive girl. Didn’t see any jealousy towards jojo. Danny’s cohost connected with ella’s mum. He was close with patsy, said she’s lovely and unintentionally funny. She’s had 5-6 near death experiences. He liked Angellica, they bonded at first but weren’t as close towards the end.

Has michaels number in his phone and he’s invited him over to his house for the hot tub “if you give everyone 5 minutes you’ll find you have something in common with them” His biggest lesson was not to judge people and to always give people a chance and a second chance. Danny’s having a summer bbq but he won’t say who is going from bb because the paps are already following him.

The board game task with the dice was so boring. The pirate task went on and on and on and on. They had so many rules in the tasks that we didn’t see that could result in a fail. It was the best experience of his life. “Angellica, Donna, Patsy icons and legends, Chris and Jojo have really beautiful souls” Mics are on at all time even in the toilet.

On learning about the Supreme Court ruling

-People are being transphobic and not seeing transmen as men and transwomen as men

Year 8:

-His parents told him to be who he wants to be, this was a "new start"
-He started drama and media study and that's when he did the things he wanted to do
-This is the year he came out. Someone asked him if he was gay, and he just owned it. By lunchtime, he was the most popular kid in the school because of that and went from the bottom to the top on that alone. (Turns out the school culture was better)
-All the girls wanted to be his friend, but the boys left him alone because he admitted it

-He discovered "Contemporary Theory": (His definition) being a performative version of the self..."etc"
-He decided he didn't want to be in drama school but it "breaks you down" and teaches you how to be somebody else. He wanted to be "able to be me on stage"... so that's why he started playing around Drag.

Uni:

-Contemporary Theory practice in uni, where the "drag started"
-Job in bars & DJ'ing
-Story of how the "drag started": He only got paid 50 quid DJ'ing... he asked why someone else was making 180... turns out they were in drag, so he said he'd come in drag next week. He comes in drag next week and it raises his pay, so that's how he started. (He just wanted more money for his DJ gig)

-Drag Race: They called him "Danny with the beard" because of the glitter beard, so he adopted the name "Danny Beard"

Summary from childhood:

-Going from not popular to being popular, he became a "mini celebrity" on the gay scene and they wanted pictures with him. THere was some fakeness to it, but "it made sense"
-Went DJ'ing to performing. Drag made him aware of everything what he wanted to do: be a presentator, panto, go on Holly Oaks
-"He will always love drag" and he's in a good position that he has two products "to sell": "Drag me" and "non-Drag me"

The Hugs are Fake: (Funny anecdote about celebrity behavior)

-Presenter points out that some people think being in drag is akin to trans and about changing a gender... but what Danny is describing, drag is a business aka "show business"

About Danny when he came out and how it's becoming earlier and earlier for people to "come out"
Ask: When do you think people should come out?

-Danny reiterates drag is very different to trans, which is an identity.
-He knew when he was gay when he was young. Most his trans friends "knew" when they were young.
-It's about supporting people "when they need support". Showing love "when they need love", regardless of sexuality/gender.
-He's a gay man and never wanted to transition. For him, he doesn't feel he is even emulating a woman. He has a white face and it's very "clown-based". It has roots in "club kid culture" from the 80s and that's where the inspiration for his face comes from.

On People on their Trans Journey

-It's about supporting them and showing love
-Trans people make 1% of the population, but it's 80% of people's conversation in the media, politicians, etc.
-Trans people are currently going through what gay people went through in the 80's: a lot of unfounded hate
-Not his place to answer when affirmative care should begin or when others should "help"

-Showing everyone love and showing them they can be whoever they want to be.

…thank you for that, Maru……I think the thing with the Paul O’Grady/Lily Savage comparisons for UK drag queens…?..(…that was always something that was said about The Vivienne, also…)…is less about them being similar in any way but more about that breaking into ‘mainstream’ entertainment, you know…I know that Danny has spoken about that before…about blending Danny in drag and Danny out of drag in one show would be his ideal dream…I’m glad that his friendship with Donna will be lasting, which I think it will…and I agree with him about Patsy, I loved her……

…yeah, I mentioned that a little while ago in a thread…how high the financial cost of drag with the costumes and especially competing at such a high level as Drag Race…I think that there are only relatively few Queens that make a good income and maybe get great sponsor deals as well…a lot of the Drag Race challenge prizes are for wigs/make up etc which will help also…

….but yeah, an average of around £25,000 - £30,000 expense for costumes for a UK drag race contestant is the sum that I’ve often seen mentioned …I’m not sure for an American one or any of the other countries…
