Did they move it as well, because one has a railing behind it and one a brick wall, if it is a real story and they did its just sad they felt they had to do and waste time and paint, on another point, we are importing boatloads of people who have different cultural values and who do not want to accept western values, so its no wonder we are going backwards

White and British people can also be homophobic. When you respond to an incident where there is no mention of the demographic with a comment about immigrants, do you know how that makes you sound?

I think the rainbow bench illustration is just to show what it should have looked like, and is not the actual bench that was painted. Looks like it's been reinstated with the rainbow. It's not a bench that has anything to do with pride or LGBTQ, it's to combat loneliness, is a 'Happy to Chat' bench.

We don't tend to throw gay people off roofs in this country. Other cultures do, cultures we're handing our country to and who seem to be fervently supported by a lot of people that Muslims would be happy to hang. But yeah, when we mention this it makes US look bad, right?

Of course anyone can be homophobic but when you have lived in a country where acceptance has gradually risen and then gradually it starts going backwards why do you think that is, no point sticking your head in the sand and saying la la la because you dont want to face the realities of other cultures and their impact on Western society, that is not racist, its just factual?

This isn't a story about anyone being thrown off a roof. It's about a bench being painted black. Why would you automatically discuss race and ethnicity. Very odd.

Islamic values are ones I don't agree with and are pretty horrific. They also probably have nothing to do with this incident, seeing as where it happened is 99% white.

This is also how Reform has become so popular, the complete inability to talk about this stuff because, you know how that makes us look.

And when we talk about impact there are also some very positive impacts from food to music to clothing, to kindness etc, but we can't just celebrate all the good and ignore the not so positive impacts, this also goes for alot of Eastern Europeans who are white...but can also have some very dodgy views when it comes to black people and gays

You responded to a news story of homophobic vandalism where no demographic of the vandal was mentioned with "cos immigration". That's why it makes you look racist, because your mind instantly went to immigrants.

Islamic values not aligning with modern British ones is also an issue, I agree. However we have no proof that is correlated to this incident, so in this scenario it's a moot point.

Why am I wearing blinkers? Because I refuse to blame an immigrant for this without any knowledge or proof?

Who is racist now as you immediately thought of Muslims...see post above :

I actually did not correlate the incident with immigration...I said 'on another point'

As a matter of interest BBXX why do you think the UK is becoming less accepting of gay people? if it is I don't know as I am not part of the community

Your mind went to immigration on a story about homophobia, based on your posting history I know your views. Saying "on another point" doesn't change that. If you thought it was completely unrelated you wouldn't have mentioned it at all, but you were trying to make a connection, semantics or not.

The rainbow on the bench wasn’t even for pride. That’s what makes it even more hilarious. The homophobes really blind with ignorance.

I think people probably have an aspect of LGBT-fatigue. I think most people saw gay marriage as 'the final step' and anything more is "too much". I think the general public underestimate how prevalent homophobia can be so things like flags and pride are see as pointless and 'too much'.

I think religion isn't as much as an issue as we think it is. I think when it comes to things like polls to get a touchpoint on the attitude of the public in this country, most religious people will answer no to questions like "do you agree with homosexuality" or "do you agree with gay marriage", but generally, I don't think the out-and-out homophobic incidences/attacks are at the hands of religious people.

I think they're at the hands of those people who lack education, who are struggling, and angry at society because they feel abandoned. I think they're looking for people to blame and take their frustrations out on and because they probably find gay people a bit gross, that's who they choose.

Honestly, I think if there was a Venn diagram of "people who get into fights at the football", "people who attack gay people" and "people who vote reform", it would almost be a circle.

I think if you were to measure the social grade, income, education level and employment status of those three groups separately you'd see a huge correlation.

And that isn't to say the rich and well-educated aren't homophobic, but I think they portray it in different ways that can do just as much harm to LGBT people as a punch in the face, but just not physically, like through becoming a politician and campaigning to strip away rights, etc... they don't get sent to jail and then marked down as a crime statistic.

I am afraid there is a connection, whether you wish to acknowledge it or not, different cultures, different values but carry on pretending that views will change as soon as they hit UK soil

I have worked with numerous Asian and Eastern European people, your eyes would pop at how open they are with their views I worked with one Polish lady who was a teacher who said she only wanted to live in the same area with white British people, she lumped me into that as I am Irish she didn't see anything wrong with saying that as in her culture it is perfectly acceptable to say it ...but you carry on looking through your rose tints..

I heard of this elsewhere, wasn't it meant to denote general positivity, rather than LGBT?

I'm not saying there isn't a connection generally, I am not blind to (what I deem to be) problematic values from other cultures and religions. I'm saying there isn't yet a proven connection in this particular incident and the fact you decided to create one was strange.

Blaming immigrants for the rise of homophobia is laughable, white catholic people are equally homophobic as any of these foreign radical religious people, just something else to blame on foreigners to hide our own people’s failings

Your anti trans sentiment has played it's part in that acceptance going backwards so you might want to be careful about throwing stones.
