Default Labour at it again : Stopping the Mayor Elections to stop Reform UK

Labour running scared over mayor reform

[Labour are "running scared" following news
that elections for newly-created mayors
will be postponed,
a prominent Conservative candidate
has said.

Elections were due to take place for
Greater Essex,
Norfolk and
Suffolk in May
but the government says these will be
pushed back until 2028.

Louise McKinlay, the Conservative candidate
for Greater Essex, said the decision
"strips our country" of investment.
A Green candidate in Suffolk said
the lack of communication was "a joke".
Devolution Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh
said she wanted the local government
reorganisation process to be completed
before the mayoral elections.

Meanwhile, Reform UK deputy leader
Richard Tice called the move a
"deliberate, dictatorial cancelling of democracy".

The Liberal Democrats said they would work
to make sure the elections still went ahead
next year.

The mayoral elections for
Hampshire and the Solent,
and Sussex and Brighton,
are also due to be postponed.

Actually I personally think the elected Mayors are just another costly exercise and drain on taxpayers funds.
The cost of electing them , then their salaries and staffing too.

Maybe have one for the 4 capital cities of the UK,
However I'm sure we could have managed and could continue to manage without all these Mayors elsewhere in the UK.

I don't really know of many people who supported this creation of yet another tier of power.

I'd concede that your probably correct in that.
I don't want Reform winning anywhere either myself.

However I still don't see why the UK now needs all these Mayors with the high cost to the taxpayers the election of them brings.

The areas asked for delays and they were approved, they haven’t gone out their way to cancel specific elections

Tbh Starmer and the Labour Party just keep making themselves look worse and worse in almost everyone's eyes.

I don't know how they can't read the room?
