A forgetful National Lottery player who accidentally bought two winning tickets is "overwhelmed" by his good luck, a family friend has said. Fifty-seven-year-old Derek Ladner bought one ticket - but forgot that he had it. So he went out and bought another with the same numbers - and ended up with two shares of the Lotto £2,395,710 jackpot draw on July 11. Mr Ladner and his wife Dawn, 60, from Redruth, Cornwall, are celebrating the two £479,142 wins - having won a total of £958,284. When the draw was made, bowling fanatic Mr Ladner claimed his £479,142 share of the jackpot, which was split between five winners. It was not until a week later he remembered he had bought another ticket with the same numbers for the same draw. A family friend at their home said: "They are overwhelmed. It hasn't sunk in yet." A friend at the local Bickford Smith Bowling Club said: "They are a delightful couple who put a lot into the club and have already been to see us to buy a round of drinks." A Camelot spokesman said of Mr Ladner: "He is the first person to have won twice in the same draw. "It must have been a huge and happy surprise." Some people ain't half jammy! |
