KARAOKE catastrophe Carole is a former folk singer who fronted her own band, The Sun can reveal.

The roly-poly youth worker performed a horror version of Led Zeppelin classic Stairway to Heaven on BB.

But she is actually a talented singer. Carole, 53, sang at pubs and clubs in and around her Essex home in the mid-1980s with the group Fancy Footwork.

On stage she sported a neat, boyish-style crop hairdo — far removed from the wild barnet which is her trademark on Big Brother.

And she performed with two guitarists called John and Steve.

Carole’s daughter Ebony Vincent remembers as a youngster watching her perform. But she said her mum only picked up a microphone for fun and not because she wanted fame.

She said: “I remember her going out every week. She used to take me along to listen to her.

“She sings well actually. On Big Brother she didn’t sound too good but she can sing.

“I think it all finally stopped because she adopted my brother.

“She was also fostering loads of kids at the same time so she couldn’t fit it all in.”

Carole has always said she admires female singers, particularly former chart stars Joan Armatrading and Tracy Chapman.

But these days she counts shock rocker Pink as one of her favourite stars.

Ebony said: “I don’t think they ever got paid but she loved it.

“She didn’t aspire to a career in the music business. She just loved having fun.

“She is really very trendy. The band went on for five or six years — she loved it.

“They were later joined by another singer called Carla after Mum had been there a while.

“When I organised a surprise 50th birthday party for her some of them got together and sang.”
