Kizwiz, I had brazton hicks contractions (and I use that word CONTRACRATIONS because they honestly felt like the real contractions!) on and off for the last 8 weeks of my second pregnancy. They were irregular but at times very painful and I sometimes felt I was in labour, especially when I was 10 days late.

My midwife told me there was nothing to worry about and as my blood pressure shot up at 37 weeks and I spent 72 hours in hospital, I also had a further few midwives, doctors and nurses telling me the same thing.

The only reason I knew I was not in labour with these contractions was because they stopped. I honestly believed when they first started up that I was going to have my baby early but then because I had them so frequently I began to disbelieve my body. I hoped they were the real thing but because I timed them I knew they were not what I hoped they were.

I must admit when the BH contractions first started I was overwhelmed by them and every time they started I believed they would lead to the real thing as they were that convincing. It was only when after a couple of hours they eased and or they were too irregular that I knew from my first pregnancy they were not real labour.

Kizwiz, I imagine your BHs are strong because you have had previous pregnancies. I recall something my midwife said about women hav ing stronger BH contractions with subsequent pregnancies? I could be wrong but whatever the case if they are troubling you you must speak to your midwife or GP.

Thanks for your help wiglet.... it makes all the difference..... Its very scarey when it happens and your right they really do feel like contractions.

They seem to last longer than "real" labour contractions for like 4 or 5 mins.

I find that moving around helps and to regulate my breathing too

Kizwiz, hope Mr Moon is looking after you well?

My BH contractions (that I can remember as it was nearly 12 years ago) tended not to last for long as yours but I would have periods of up to 5-6 hours where I was having these damn things before they eased off. They may of lasted longer but like I said it was a long time ago.

I have spoken to a friend and she also had BHs but not as bad as you or I experienced them so I guess we are all different. (Lucky her)
Until you give birth you will always worry about something and then of course it gets worse doesn't it!!!! Enjoy your last ten weeks, I promise not to be patronizing about the 'blooming period' because I felt like an elephant, (non dancing).

Aahh, poor you, Kiz! My mum says she had them with me, and they were a lot easier to deal with if you try and do some exercise while you're having them. I'm not sure if that's a medical recommendation, or if it's just what works for her, but there you go, lol. Aww, I'll bet Red'll be too busy to take pictures :P
