Default Post Count Frustration

I am sorry to have to say but I am finding this site so frustrating at the moment.

Some people seem to be obsessed with jacking up their post count so much that its leading to meaningless thoughless posts that to be fair, put me right off coming here and enjoying the site.

Nobody seems to be able to explain their opinions anymore.

Its just quick fire responces without a debate.

Its a shame really...... hence why I dont come here and post very often

I'm not so bothered by my post count, I'd like it to be at 10k before Xmas, but that won't change my posting, I'll post the same things, but i think people posting do you like this site on general site, do you think this is funny is tiresome.

I understand where you are coming from.

I don't really care, although they could put a limit of 35 -40 posts a day.

I've noticed it too. It tends to happen with newer members though, so maybe they're taking longer to settle down. You tend to care about it less and less as time goes on, I've seen. But I can't imagine what the reaction would have been if the site was the way it was before (i.e. you could see your post number every time you posted, and even Chat&Games posts counted).

I think the new system where you still have a post count but it's put in terms of 5000+, 10000+ etc. is much better, not to mention Chat&Games posts not counting. There shouldn't be a limit though, because sometimes posts really are insightful - especially when there's a lot to talk about.

Anyway, it's a shame you're put off coming to the site. You've been a good member for ages so shouldn’t stop now. Just visit sometimes and post in the threads you feel are worth posting in.

That's what I try to explain for ages, instead of having good debates with new people they are obsessed with their post count ! That's why I dislike most of them, only the post count exists and not the debate.
I agree Kiz !

Your spot on there Ash, it has changed the way people post but I find now the goals are greater as people are rushing to get to 5k,10k etc. And of course chat and games not counting as I remember that peoples post count could go up by 1000 in one week

But its also the quality of posts..... that seems to have gone out of the window.

I think that's a good point to make, as it also counts for 500+ and 1000+ etc, which would help to detour people from posting too much in some cases.

Although I know exactly what you mean...
Some people [I won't name any names, but im sure they know who they are.] submit posts that consist entirely of "lol"

Or just one simple sentence that really didn't need to be said.

They're all aware this is a forum, and not a chatroom or instant message, yet they still insist on posting next to nothing in order to raise their post count.

It's just plain irritating to sit and watch them post like that in my opinion, it's posting for selfish motives rather than trying to fit into the community and have decent conversations.

Im also convinced some people are insisting on posting too much in order to gain such a high post count...that people will respect them and think they are valued members due to so many posts.

Or even because they're secretly hoping for a staff position due to their excessive posting.

Which won't happen =] so they might as well stop now.

I agree Kiz !
Debates dont happen anymore tho do they??? Because of people ruining the debate by putting silly short responces that kill the thread

I dont look at post count to be fair, it doesnt matter to me if someone has 5 or 5000 posts but your bang on the nail about one line posts that add nothing to the site

And its not a chatroom....its a forum where people who create thread want to debate and discuss thoughts and ideas..... and the responce "lol" ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

whats the point in responding like that....I would rather see someone saying "yes, I agree because ........."

it makes a much worthwhile forum to be fair

Do you not think newer features on the main page like "most posts today" for example. actually encourage this sort of behaviour? I am sure some members would try and get their post count up for such a feature. I mean, does it matter who has posted the most in a day?

I know what you mean Kizzy i mean im a culprit of posting in the + - games but i like playing in those threads maybe if we moved them to the chat/games it would stop it. But it just the 1 word threads that really annoy me i know what you mean by that

I have to say, I posted 1000 posts in a week but I haven't made pointless posts at all.

It's quite sad to see that there is no more debates, the old TIBB is officially dead.

New members are so obsessed about the post count, it doesn't show anything, they have to understand that.

I think quality posts over quantity counts, I've never really been competitive over how many posts I have in relation to everyone else. I know I'd never get chance to be "Most posts today" and don't care that it's never me that's up there.

Ive been having a few debates lately...
So they are still possible to have.

But they seem rather limited to the serious debate forum.
Which could be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it.

I hate to sound stereotypical/judgemental, but I think age often comes into the situation.

The majority of younger members post excessively...
We do have fourteen year olds here afterall.

I am the same Nic, I dont see posts numbers..... I dont even know when I go over a certain milestone

I would much rather have quality than it be a race to the finish
