Big Brother’s Brian Belo Guests in Vegemite Tales
Brian Belo, the winner of Big Brother 8, the most recent series of the Channel 4 reality show, is due to make his stage debut as the Guardian Angel in The Vegemite Tales at The Venue off Leicester Square for just one night only on 25 September. He follows in the footsteps of Jade Goody who also performed in the cameo role for one night only on 19 September (See Goss, 18 Sep 2007), with producers cashing in on their time-limited “name” appeal.

Belo, a former data entry clerk, joins Australian actors Blair McDonough (Stuart Parker in Neighbours and also a winner of the Australian Big Brother a few years ago) and Jonathon Dutton (Tad Reeves in Neighbours). Naturally, Belo is already a big fan of Neighbours so will undoubtedly enjoy sharing the stage with the stars.

The Vegemite Tales delves into the lives of a group of young antipodeans colonising a west London flat. Sam’s thinking about going home, Maddie’s thinking about Dan, Dan’s thinking with the wrong head, Eddie’s not really thinking at all, Gemma’s facing a big decision and Jane just wants the toilet bowl to be clean.

Australian playwright Melanie Tait wrote the comedy based on her own experiences while living in the UK. It was first staged at the Baron’s Court Theatre in 2001 and soon became a sell-out fringe hit with Australian and New Zealander ex-pats. In summer 2005, it had a three-month season at west London’s Off-West End venue Riverside Studios.

The rest of the cast includes Jessica Gerger, Andy Leonard, Andrew Robb, Anna Skellern and Josephine Taylor. The production is directed by Bill Buckhurst and produced by Itchy Feet Theatre. It closes on 27 October.
