I bought a laptop for around £800 and a printer and a scanner, a laptop carrycase and one of those trailing socket things where you can plug four different appliances into and has one of those safety devices whereby if lightning struck the house, the computer or anything else wouldn't receive one of those damaging powerserges, which would ruin the computer. I think that came to about a £1000 I got some disks and things, like you do when you start off. Had it ages now.

Some people go bloody apeshit and spend thousands on ther buggers. Anyone here do that?

For me, its more like "How much CAN I spend on a computer?"

As little as possible. As long as its a reasonably computer its fine by me.

That's not bad really. I bought mine about 4 years ago, so today it would probably cost about that? But the memory would be bigger now I am sure.

A friend bought a Sony laptop for £2000 wide-screen too. It does a lot too. It should do at that bloody price

I'd spend what i needed too, i got my laptop for £400 August 06, i've got discs and 512 for it and some other essentials, i think inall i've spent about 600ish on my laptop which isn't bad.

I spent £2,000 on my current computer set-up. Well, I say I spent, buy my current computer set-up was worth £2,000 (when I bought it).

It includes some peripherals from an old PC and some components/peripherals given to me as gifts.

Yeah it is all the extras that add up. If you pop into PC World and need advice on how to spend some more money on your computer to better it whatever, they can always manage that haha!

I might get a better one next year. Got a bit of cash coming my way, so I may venture to £1000+ on a new one. Nothing lavish really, just something which will suffice

I must say though, there is so much selection on the web for computers, it is overwealming. Websites/forums/and the rest. You can pretty much ask anything and find the answer, wow..wee

I got one of those leather Antlar cases, cost enough and I never ever use it as I have my computer out all the time.

I have loads of discs with allsorts on, I never stop really haha!

I've been saving up for my dream computer, the iMac, for two years. I have £800 so far, and my parents have told me that they'll pay the rest of it for my Christmas, so my dream will come true this year

I got my current PC a year and a half ago btw

Exactly, as long as they're working and do what you want them for then as little as possible.

I've never actually spent a penny though as my mum and dad bought my computer and laptop.

However, if I had to buy one myself then I'd not want to go over £500 as you can get really good ones for that price. But 2K on a computer? There are SO many better things people could be spending their money on.

I've thought about a power surge unit incase of a blackout but I can't really justify one considering the frequency of it happening. But my reasoning is if you spend a lot of time using something, and enjoy using it then why not spend some money getting a nice one

I think my cuurent PC was £280 from Dell, does everything I need it to. I'd be preparted to spend up to £500 on a desktop and £700 on a laptop.
