Im currently doing a health and social course at college (2 years) which will enable me to go on to university at the end of it If I want too. The thing is,Im really tempted to just go and get a job at the minute, the thought of having no money until im about 23 and left univeristy is just terrible.I dont even get EMA. ![]() ![]() Sorry for the rant folks,i dont normally post threads like this |

Don’t apologise; this is of course a stressful time, and it’s good that you feel comfortable enough to get it off your chest and talk about how you feel. Whether you go to university or simply get a job really depends on just you – it should be your choice only. The deciding factors are really whether or not you wish to be a part of university life, what kind of career you want, how you see your future mapping out and what you think it holds.
If you have aspirations which don’t require qualifications, I’d still always say your best bet is to have something anyway you can fall back on. You won’t necessarily have no money, in the sense that you could still take up a part time job whilst at university. I know how you feel though – I’m in a similar situation at the moment and I’m finding that I’m just going with the flow. |

Doesnt matter really considering that most of the jobs are given to migrants according to the news. i studied for 4 years and ended up working as a checkout assistant.

I'm scared too, I'm at the end of my college years, I know what I want to do but I'm always asking if it's the good choice because I can't change after, I don't want to disapoint myself and my family. That's a stressful time. Don't worry it's a normal thing.

![]() then i red sodjames` post and ![]() Ive been trying since I was 15 to get a part time job and still cannot find one anywhere, ive applied for loads and no one ever gets back to me ![]() The thing is if i stick with college go on to uni get a degree then go on to have a sucessful career I feel that when im 80 or whatever then I`ll look back and be pleased with what i achieve-i dont want to be a little old lady looking back at her life and wondering what if and what a waste. I also feel alot of pressure from my mam,she says she wants me to have a 'career' not just a 'job' ![]() |

Im going to continue my rant lol......
another part of the problem is the kind of lifestyle I want. Im in a serious relationship atm and dont particulalry want the uni lifestyle, drinking, sleeping around, lazing about most of the day and partying all night.I also dont want to move away from my boyfriend and live with a bunch of strangers. On the other hand....If I happened to split up with my bf which could happen,I may feel completely different. Its so hard knowing what to do for the best. A part of me wants to work 9-5 monday to friday then blow my wages on a saturday on clothes, shoes and make up and live at home rent free wheras the other half of me wants to actually achieve something in life, make myself and my family proud and hopefully have more money in later life. Ahhhh its tough! |

It is a tough time for you right now, decisions like this are never easy!
I am a big fan of education and would really try to persuade you to stick with it, you will benefit from it in future years. I felt similar to you, I actually had my eldest daughter at 16 but still went on and continued with my studies to make a better life for myself and my daughter. Instead of going away I went to a local Uni, then I was not pulled into the uni life you speak of. Lauren will tell you I am sure that it is not all partying and sleeping around, it is hard work and committment as well. Uni will be what you make of it. |

I'm in my last year of school as well. It all seems so scary. Its up to you. But you should really think about it.If theres a job you can get without going to uni than I say go for it. But 23 isn't that old at all and what if you can't find a job and then you need uni qualifications to get one? In the long term being broke during uni can mean be a lot more finacially stable for the rest of your life. Here its much easier as university is free so its a much easier option and one which the majority of people do take.
I hope you sort it out! Good luck! |

Uni tuition fees and loans aren't as bad as the media make out. They're worse! BUT! When you get to Uni, you don't think about them. At the moment I owe around... £20,000 to Government, does it keep me awake at night? No way.
