Default Why do people say BB5 was BB\'s biggest success when . . .

a) It was the second most watched

and

b) Its final was the third most watched?

And its voting figures weren't the highest they've ever been either. So it wasn't, yet people seem to think that BB want to go back to the glory days of BB5. Why? BB3 was far more successful. Why wouldn't they want to go back to those days when the finalgot 10 million people tuning in?

I'm not saying it wasn't a success but it certainly isn't the route they should actually be aiming for - that should be BB3.

It saved the franchise. Plain and simple. After the disaster of BB4(snore!!) I'm sure there was talk of ditching the whole thing. BB5 was so compelling that it is probably the most important BB of all time. And the best IMO

It was a success because it was when Big Brother changed after the disaster which was BB4, it was new, fresh and original. I think it's the best series ever and it will never be beaten.

It followed BB4 which was boring, and introduced a new "evil" format so it got lots of people interested in the show once again, even though it wasn't the most watched series ever.

The most important was the first series. Without Nick BB never would have probably got a second series.

BB5 seems to be quite popular amongst BB fans if not amongst the publib. It was straight after BB5 and they didn't go too far like BB8. They just had good tasks, good characters and a right amount of good twists.

The last glorious Big Brother was 7, it did fantastically well in the ratings and scooped the National Award over Celebrity Big Brother 4, BB5 was just an ok series.

BB5 was the most successful because it was a big fan favourite, saved BB and was the most talked about BB in the papers, magazines. It saw the beginning of a new BB and to top it off it did brilliant in ratings and got goot voting.

I'm glad someone finally pointed out the housemates, Princess.

In my opinion, the show was well-balanced because of the different personalities and characteristics each contestant had.

There were the Lip Gloss Bitches (Emma, Marco, Michelle, Nadia), the Jungle Cats (Ahmed, Jason, Victor) and the drifters (Becki, Dan, Kitten, Shell, Stuart, Vanessa). All 13 people made the series a pleasure to watch and I found them all very likeable and entertaining at certain points in the game, bar none. The quality of entertainment in 2004 was fantastic and the unpredictability of the series was always facinating for me.

BB5 reigns as my favourite edition of the show because I found the show a pleasure to watch throughout its entire run - not an annoyance like most other series (at points).

BB5 had everything and so far has been by far the best series IMO. From a personal point of view my favourites were Ahmed, Jason & Victor but taking nothing away from the other housemates because they all played their parts in making the series what it was. Great housemates, great twists and some brilliant arguments/fights (fight night being the most obvious) over the series which for me makes the series special and the fact it was constantly watchable shows how good it was. Going to be hard to beat it that's for sure as already seen.

BB5 had everything, it had the bigger impact in public's eyes, it was like a revolution in the BB world.

Believe it or not, if we use percentage of views, Big Brother 2004 was the most popular series to date. Over 25% watched at any given time, even higher than Big Brother 2000 and 2002. And yes, Big Brother 2004 was the greatest.

I agree with everyone who said BB5 is the biggest ! We will never see a series like that with that impact anymore.

Actually, 28% of viewers watched BB3. But I always prefered BB5.

The reason i think it is called the best is becuse things got changed, like BB getting evil and that.
Lets hope they can do that with bb9, Who is with me lol

BB5 was my faveroute along with BB3 with Celeb Hijack coming third.

It was a great series. But maybe its so highly praised because of the dissapointment of BB4.
Like if BB9 is good, then people will think it will be one of the better pnes because BB8 was not as good as previous series so it would look like a sucess.Same with CH, I expected nothing from it because it followed BB8 and it turned out to be my third faveroute series ever.

I haven't read through all of this thread, but in regards to the original poster, you're only looking at it in terms of ratings which were great anyway, but not the best ever.

But in terms of pure entertainment, tasks, twists and cast of housemates it is widely regarded amongst fans as well as the producers (well the producer who was posting on the C4 forum) as the best series. BB5 had so much to prove after BB4 and it totally reinvented the show, so for that it deserves a ton of credit.
